According to a report on February 18, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is currently cautious about trying brain chip implantation.
The Meta CEO discussed brain-computer interfaces in an episode of the Morning Brew Daily podcast released on Friday.
One of the craziest things we're working on is this neural interface, he said. I don't mean like the chip you plug into your brain. Maybe someone will do this in the future, but I don't want to use version 1 of it. 」
He continued: I think you might want to wait until that thing is fairly mature. Let's wait until I don't need to upgrade that thing every year.
While he didn't specifically name any of the companies, the most well-known name in the field of brain-computer interface research is Elon Musk's neuralink.
Zuckerberg did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Musk said that last month, Neuralink implanted its chip into the brain of a human patient for the first time.
Musk said that Neuralink's goal is to tackle autism and mental illness and allow people to use devices such as mobile phones or computers just by thinking. Autism and psychosis are widely recognized as disorders, not diseases.
Scientists who study the brain are skeptical that Neuralink's technology can address brain abnormalities or alter the structure of its development, but instead believe it is more likely to help people with paralysis move through the world more easily.
As for Meta, Zuckerberg discussed the company's work on wristbands, which incorporate artificial intelligence that responds to your gestures and allows you to do things like text friends.
In the future, you can basically control something like typing by thinking about how you want to move your hand. He said.
Neuralink did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
