A hero across time - the legendary life of General Chen Geng.
In August 1937, the main force of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army accepted the reorganization of the National Revolution and assumed the name of the Eighth Route Army of the National Revolutionary Army. However, this reorganization was not all smooth sailing, and the formation of the 115th Division raised a series of questions. In this process, the final destination of General Chen Geng, a high-profile figure, has become the focus of attention.
When looking back on this period of history, we find that General Chen Geng's life experience is very legendary. In his early years, he launched the Long March with the First Army, and led the cadres and regiments to establish no small feats. However, despite the outstanding talents he had shown in the troops, he did not stay in the 115th Division as a brigade commander during the reorganization of the Eighth Route Army. Instead, he chose to go to the 129th Division and became a member of Nakano's Tiger General in the future.
Why didn't General Chen Geng stay in the 115th Division as a brigade commander? Why was the 129th Division finally chosen? What's the story behind this? Let's take a step into this storied history.
Within the 115th Division, General Chen Geng's qualifications were not satisfactory, and he was neither able to be a brigade commander nor a regiment commander. This embarrassing situation stemmed from his background at the Whampoa Military Academy and the experience he had accumulated in revolutionary battles. However, in the competition for the brigade commander of the 115th Division, General Chen Geng was obviously at a disadvantage.
The army structure of the 115th Division is simple and straightforward, but the position of brigade commander has been occupied, and General Chen Geng seems to have no suitable place to go. However, the relationship between him and the commander of the 115th Division, Mr. Lin, also added a subtle discord. Although there is no obvious contradiction, the differences in personality and background of the two make it difficult for them to work together in perfect harmony.
Mr. Lin is calm and introverted, while General Chen Geng is optimistic and humorous, and the difference in personality between the two makes their cooperation seem a little reluctant. Therefore, it was not a good choice for General Chen Geng to remain under General Lin as a brigade commander, which also explained why he finally chose to leave the 115th Division.
However, General Chen Geng's ability and experience cannot be ignored. He held important positions in the Four Front Armies and accumulated a wealth of combat experience. This made him an ideal candidate for the 129th Division, although there were some complications within the 129th Division.
The formation of the 129th Division originated from the Fourth Front Army, and Senior General Chen Geng, as a member of the former service here, naturally received some support. At the same time, he has avoided some political controversy here and is relatively more stable. Therefore, in the end, he chose the 129th Division and made a name for himself here.
After becoming the brigade commander, General Chen Geng showed outstanding command skills, and the reputation of the 386th Brigade grew. He led his troops to participate in many battles and became a banner during the Anti-Japanese War. Although he was not able to stay in the 115th Division, his tenure in the 129th Division added a glorious chapter to his life.
The story of General Chen Geng tells us that the life of a hero is not always smooth sailing. After going through ups and downs, he still created his own legend with his talent and hard work. As he said: "It is gold that shines in **", the story of General Chen Geng will always inspire us to move forward.
