How to set the inner and outer borders separately in word

Mondo Technology Updated on 2024-02-15

Setting the inner and outer borders in Microsoft Word mainly involves the page layout or the border settings of **. Here I will introduce how to set the inner and outer borders for the page and how to set the inner and outer borders for ** respectively.

There is no option to directly set the "inner and outer borders" of a page in Word, but you can achieve a similar effect with page margins and page borders.

Set the page border

Go to the Design tab.

Click on "Page Border". This opens the Borders & Shading dialog.

Under the Borders tab, you can choose the border style, color, and width.

Select Box to set the outer border for the entire page.

Click OK to apply the changes.

Adjust the margins

If you want to create an "inner border" effect inside the page, you can do so indirectly by adjusting the margins.

Go to the Layout tab.

Tap "Margins", select a preset margin or tap "Custom Margin" to set the margin manually.

In the Page Setup dialog box, adjust the top, bottom, left, and right margins to change the distance between the document content and the page border, so as to achieve the visual effect of the inner border.

For **, Word provides a more intuitive option to set the inner and outer borders.

Select **: First, insert a ** in the document, and then click anywhere to make it selected.

Open the border settings

Go to the Design tab under Tools.

In the "Border" group, click the "Border" button, and you will see several options for setting the border, including "No Border", "Outer Border", and "All Border".

Set the outer border

Select Outer Border to set the outer border for Outer Border.

Set the inner border

If you need to adjust or add inner borders, you can select All Borders or use the Borders tab in the Borders & Shading dialog box for more granular settings.

With the above steps, you can set the inner and outer borders for the pages or ** in the word document as you like. Please note that these options and steps may vary slightly depending on the version of Word you are using.
