February** Dynamic Incentive Program
The historical background of Hulishan Fort can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty.
During the Opium War, Xiamen Island was once captured by the British army, especially in the 1841 Anti-British Defense War, the Xiagang fortress represented by the Shibi Fort was destroyed by the British army, and the issue of strengthening the defense of the southeast further attracted the attention of the first. In order to strengthen the coastal defense, the Qing Dynasty ** decided to build a new fort on Xiamen Island. In the seventeenth year of Guangxu (1891), Peng Chuhan, the admiral of Fujian and Bian Baodi, the governor of Fujian and Zhejiang, were allowed to build the Hulishan Fort, which was funded by the Qing court and completed in the 22nd year of Guangxu (1896).
After the completion of the Hulishan Fort, it became the main fort of the Xiamen Fortress in the late Qing Dynasty, and the Longhaiyu Tsaiwei Fort on the opposite bank of Xiamen Island leaned on each other to control the port of Xiamen. It played a very important role in history, and it has repeatedly resisted the attacks of foreign invaders and defended the security of Xiamen. During the Sino-Japanese War, the Hulishan Fort also played an important role, hitting a Japanese ship, forcing the invaders to withdraw from the waters of Xiamen.
Nowadays, Huli Hill Fort has become a famous tourist attraction that attracts a large number of tourists to visit. Visitors can enjoy the ancient buildings and historical relics here, and learn about the history and culture of Xiamen. At the same time, Hulishan Fort is also a national cultural relics protection unit with important historical and cultural value.
