In 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will go on a strategic defense. This time should be spent not only on restoring the potential of the Ukrainian army, but also on finding new tactical solutions for the battlefield. Mick Ryan, a retired major general of the Australian Armed Forces and a military analyst, said this in an interview with The Telegraph.
I think that 2024 will be used mainly for the strategic defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to restore strength. Mobilization is essential for this. There is also a need to rearm, for which a lot of ammunition is needed**, and I hope this will happen after the United States approves a bill that includes a $60 billion aid package for Ukraine," he said.
According to Ryan, in addition to this, the Ukrainian military needs to solve a number of operational problems. He noted that the parties had not yet addressed these issues. Specifically, the analyst lists the following issues that need to be addressed:
integration of old and new military technologies;
adaptation of large-scale and dispersed operations to the conditions of modern warfare in order to minimize the possibility of early detection of offensive preparations;
reducing the cost of air defense systems to strike missiles and UAVs;
find the right balance between ranged strikes and melee combat;
Look for tactics to break through the echelon defenses.
In the final analysis, under the new military technical conditions, the old tactics have failed, and the Russian-Ukrainian war has historically become a testing ground for the exploration of a new mode of warfare for mankind. Whoever makes a breakthrough first will be the victor in this war.
