Uzbekistan hasJulturbas lakeIt is included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance. The lake isWetland of International Importance No. 2541, which was once part of the bay of the Aral Sea. Until around 1960, the Aral Sea was the fourth largest lake in the world. The Sudoch Lake System near the lake is also a wetland of International Importance (No. 2522).

Due to the severe reduction in the size of the Aral Sea, the lake has become an important stopover for many birds migrating along the Central Asian and Afro-Eurasian flyways. About 25,000 waterbirds inhabit the area each year, with at least seven species accounting for 1% of the region's population, including white-eyed pochard (Aythya nyroca), red-billed pochard (Netta rufina) and white-headed hard-tailed duck (Oxyura leucocephala).

There are 15 species of fish living here, five of which are endemic to the Aral Sea region, including two critically endangered species: the dwarf sturgeon (Pseudoscapirhynchus hermanni) and the Amdariya sturgeon (Pseudoscapirhynchus kaufmanni). There are also terrestrial animals that live around the lake, such as gazella subgutturosa.

Activities such as grazing, harvesting reeds, fishing, and hunting are allowed in the local community. The "National Hunting Grounds" and the "National Forest Community" were established to promote the rational use of wetland resources and sustainable tourism at the site.
