In the midst of war.
Duan Liuchang In 1942, the Japanese invaded Burma, and a large number of wounded soldiers of the defeated Chinese Expeditionary Force and refugees who helped the old and the young poured into Longchuan Zhangfeng. In order to avoid being ravaged by the Japanese invaders, my father led the whole family to flee from Longchuan Zhangfeng to Tengchong. When he traveled to the vicinity of Zhangbi, more than ten miles north of Longchuan City, he was ransacked by a group of robbers armed with long knives and gunpowder guns. I had no choice but to continue to flee. Arrive at Qingping Street that night. But the misfortune did not go alone, my mother and third brother fell ill one after another, and their lives fell into an embarrassment.
Someone introduced that there is a family in the Little Calf Village of Prince Tree who wants to adopt a son. My mother believed in the superstitious saying that "if the child comes out first, he will either defeat his parents or himself", so she reluctantly gave the third brother, who was not yet two years old, to the family. The family also gave us a little money. In less than a month, this money ran out again. In a desperate situation, my father happened to meet the official line Yongkuan of the Longchuan Division, who he knew before, and his father became a medical officer in the Longchuan Division, and his salary was 80 rupees per month (the Burmese currency used in the frontier before the liberation of the country.
In May 1944, a squadron of Japanese invaders suddenly invaded Longchuan and immediately stationed in the department. The official Duo Yongan was placed under house arrest and surveillance, and his contact with the outside world was completely cut off. One day later, on the pretext of protecting the officer's family, the Japanese military officers wanted to relocate several key members of the Duo Yongan family. Duo Yongan knew the enemy's treacherous schemes, feigned obedience, and dealt with it. But before dawn the next day, he quietly fled with his concubine Dao Bao Tuan and two entourage. First go to Jingpo Mountain Lane Kazhai, and then go to Qingping Township Manbang Shangzhai Longchuan Anti-Japanese Base.
Soon after Tianming, Duo Yongan and others fled, the Japanese army came and wanted to urge them to leave. When peeking through the crack in the window, I saw that many of the bedridden white cloth mosquito nets were drooping, and two pairs of men's and women's slippers were neatly arranged on the pedals in front of the bed. The Japanese thought it was still early, so they didn't get up and didn't get alarmed. About two hours later, the Japanese soldiers came back to peep and saw that many of the beds were still the same, so they became suspicious, knocked on the door and shouted but there was no movement, so they pushed the door and entered, lifted the mosquito net, and saw that the beds were empty. Knowing that they had been deceived, the Japanese officers jumped into a rage and immediately gave some orders to the Japanese troops. For a time, the Japanese troops who searched for Duo Yongan and others, in addition to searching every corner of the department, also broke into the city and searched many homes. When he couldn't find much to wait, he was even more annoyed and angry, and arrested several staff members of the department to hang and detain them. My father's safety is at great threat.
A few days after escaping from the east, at noon in a torrential rain, an old man of the Dai nationality in his 50s disguised himself to look for the lost cow and went to the Rikou Gang in the north of the city to inspect. When the Japanese sentries had just left their posts and returned to the camp for dinner, they quickly returned and told my family, who had already made preparations, to set off immediately and escape from the tiger's mouth. On the second day, he arrived at Shangzhai in Manbang, Qingping Township, and took refuge in another Dai farmer's house adjacent to the residence of Duo Siguan and others. After my family arrived in Qingping, my father became the only doctor in the Longchuan anti-Japanese armed base. However, there is an extreme shortage of medicines, so only herbs and prescriptions can be used. Even when my father had a severe cough, he had to steam honey with pears**.
In June 1944, at dawn after a heavy rain, a large group of Japanese troops suddenly attacked our anti-Japanese armed base in Manbang Shangzhai, Qingping Street. There were only more than 100 militiamen left behind at the base, and it was difficult to fight head-on with the Japanese army, which had absolute superiority in numbers and firepower, and the situation was very critical. The captain of our militia still calmly and courageously took advantage of the geographical advantage, while directing the militia to resist stubbornly, and urging Duo Yongan and his wife to move immediately. My father and two attachés also followed Duo Yongan and his wife to the old official village in Dongshan. The guns and bullets pursued by the Japanese army were whistling and flying overhead like raindrops, which was really dangerous, and they arrived at the old official village that night.
The militiamen who were evacuated to recuperate heard the fierce gunfire in the direction of Qingping, and quickly organized themselves and fired at the enemy troops in separate directions. At noon, the Japanese invaders saw that our reinforcements were gradually increasing, and they retreated for fear of being encircled. Fortunately, our mother and son of 8 people have moved to Liukun Village on the other side of the Nanwan River in the dam a few days earlier. When he heard the sound of gunfire in the direction of Qingping, he also followed many villagers to flee to hide in the valley behind the village. Wait until the gunfire has subsided, and then dare to return to the village. Although our mother and son were in danger, we didn't know whether my father was evil or lucky, and my mother was as anxious as an ant on a hot pot.
A few days later, Mr. and Mrs. Duo Yongan, my father and others came from Laoguanzhai to Liukunzhai. Because Liukun was a little far away from Qingping, it was inconvenient to lead anti-Japanese activities, and after a few days of rest, many officials and others were all transferred to Manlu Village, which was across the river from Qingping. My family and the family of many officials live in two Dai families that are adjacent to the side door. There is a small barrier here with the Nanwan River, which is relatively safe.
In August 1945, Japan surrendered unconditionally. At the end of the year, my father and his subordinate official Yue Zhun (Duo Zhonglian) were ordered to lead a few soldiers and drive a group of cattle to Tengchong to express condolences to the anti-Japanese soldiers on behalf of Longchuan Tusi and the people of all ethnic groups in Longchuan.
During the Anti-Japanese War, a Chinese orphan was forced to go under a river embankment to fetch water for Japanese soldiers. Japan's war of aggression caused a large number of casualties among the Chinese people, leaving behind countless orphans, and the Japanese army forcibly conscripted many orphans to serve as miscellaneous servants in the Japanese army for the Japanese officers and men to drive. Killing parents and enslaving their sons reflects the essence of the Japanese invading army. **From "A Moment of Anti-Japanese War" (Qin Feng).
