On January 30, the 2024 World Digital Education Conference with the theme of "Digital Education: Application, Sharing, and Innovation" opened in Shanghai. During the conference, the establishment of the World Digital Education Alliance was officially announced. Liu Limin, president of the China Education Association for International Exchange, the representative of the initiator of the alliance, introduced the background of the establishment of the alliance and the relevant considerations for the future development of the alliance to the guests.
Liu Limin said that the digital transformation of education is gradually becoming a common action for the world's education reform, and an innovative path to achieve a learning revolution and improve the quality of education. At the 2023 World Conference on Digital Education, Chinese and foreign institutions such as the China Education Association for International Exchange issued an initiative to establish the World Digital Education Alliance, which received positive responses from all parties. Up to now, 104 universities, international educational organizations, research institutions and enterprises from 41 countries and regions around the world have joined the alliance.
The World Digital Education Alliance actively responds to the spirit of the United Nations Transforming Education Summit and the UNESCO Education 2030 High-Level Steering Committee Meeting, aiming to build an international platform to strengthen dialogue and exchanges, and promote practical cooperation and high-quality development of digital education. Focusing on the core task of promoting the digital transformation of education, the alliance will establish a long-term mechanism for international cooperation in digital education, promote the digital transformation of education among all stakeholders, and help all people enjoy more equitable, inclusive and high-quality education.
After the establishment of the World Digital Education Alliance, it will focus on serving the members of the alliance, build a high-quality dialogue platform, promote the sharing of digital education resources, promote the successful practice of digital education, and further expand the scale of the alliance's members, gather global high-quality digital education resources, actively participate in global digital education governance, and build the alliance into an international public service platform with extensive international influence.
