Qualcomm lays the foundation for the future of wireless technology.

Qualcomm continues to unleash the true potential of wireless technology, focusing on the evolutionary innovations that will drive 5G Advanced forward and the transformative technologies that will define 6G in 2030 and beyond. At MWC Barcelona, Qualcomm will be showcasing a selection of its representative foundational technologies that are critical to the future of wireless connectivity.

A series of demonstrations of the company's advanced wireless technologies during MWC Barcelona 2024.

Hyperscale MIMO will unleash the potential of mid- and high-band spectrum: Qualcomm will bring the world's first prototype ultra-large-scale MIMO antenna system built for operation in the 13GHz band at MWC Barcelona this year, helping the wireless communications industry explore the use of new spectrum in the mid-to-high-band and prepare for the arrival of the 6G era. New Capabilities for Advanced mmWave Deployments: Qualcomm will showcase a newly expanded 5G mmWave test network in San Diego, which is now capable of hybrid beamforming to improve multi-user MIMO performance and terminal mobility; It also supports 5G standalone networking and integrates innovative infrastructure options that dramatically improve mmWave deployment efficiency. Wireless AI Interoperability and Efficiency Improvements: Qualcomm has partnered with the ecosystem to make wireless AI technologies interoperable. The first demo focused on Qualcomm's collaboration with Nokia Bell Labs, demonstrating how sequential learning can enable multi-vendor wireless AI systems. The second demo expands on Qualcomm's prototype system for AI-assisted mmWave beam management, which now supports airspace beams**. Digital Twin Networking: Qualcomm demonstrates how high-fidelity modeling of physical space, RF propagation, and NE dynamics can deliver better user experiences and new capabilities, including mobility, enhanced positioning, and deterministic network transformation, in a real-time OTA test platform for digital twin networks. The Road to Sub-THZ: Qualcomm showcases real-world applications for point-to-multipoint communications and dynamic reconfiguration of point-to-point wireless links in data centers using new spectrum in the 140GHz band. Other Fundamental Technology Demonstrations: In addition to the above highlights, Qualcomm will demonstrate the progress we have made this year with more in-depth technical demonstrations, including sub-band full-duplex cross-link interference cancellation, link adaptive enhancement to improve system spectral efficiency, and robust Super-QAM design to improve network energy efficiency.

Expand 5G to support new services.

According to the GSMA think tank, there are more than 1.5 billion 5G connections worldwide, most of which come from smartphones. To unleash the full potential of 5G, we must expand 5G to new devices, new use cases, and new industries. This year, Qualcomm will explore how new 5G technologies are transforming experiences beyond enhanced mobile broadband.

Advanced Automotive Connectivity: Qualcomm expands its advanced cloud platform to support more vulnerable traffic participants (VRUs), demonstrates automotive safety scenarios at multiple intersections, and demonstrates how vehicle trajectory information learning and wireless coverage can be leveraged to ensure seamless automotive connectivity. Unbounded AR for Dynamic Distributed Computing: Qualcomm, in partnership with Hololight and Ericsson, demonstrated how to process in the cloud when network conditions are optimal and smoothly transition to device-side computing when needed, demonstrating how dynamic distributed computing will be key to unlocking the unbounded AR experience. 5G Lightweight (RedCAP) Evolution: Qualcomm demonstrated how 5G networks can be scaled with RedCap to support exponentially growing 5G devices while coexisting with other types of 5G devices and services; It also shows how a new low-power wake-up receiver design will lead to better terminal power-saving characteristics. 5G communication in space based on non-terrestrial network (NTN): Qualcomm demonstrated the first OTA call between a simulated satellite and a prototype terminal using the advanced 5G NR NTN test platform; Qualcomm is also partnering with Ericsson and Keysight to demonstrate seamless mobility between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, as well as handover between satellites. 5G Broadcast for **: Qualcomm has partnered with Rohde & Schwarz and the world's leading broadcasters to demonstrate that 5G broadcast is ready for commercial deployments across a wide range of use cases.
