On January 14, near Haojiagou Street in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, a group of people sang and danced to the rhythm of the drums, the women's skirts swayed, and the men's movements were neat and energetic. The scene was carefully decorated with balloons and banners, and the small venue was full of laughter.

It was the 2024 New Year's Gala of the Light of the Light Dance Troupe. As a large-scale square dance team built by Taiyuan people, Xiazhiguang Dance Troupe was established in April 2016 and has gone through nearly 8 years. At present, the dance troupe has more than 30 people, basically merchants and surrounding residents doing business in the garment city, most of whom come from Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Fujian and other southern provinces. Compared with the dance partners who dance together, the dance troupe is more like the emotional sustenance of starting a business in a foreign land for the members.
We contacted the Taiyuan square dance team such as the gymnasium team and the Longtan team to celebrate together, and it is enough to sing, dance and play well! The "Teacher Ping" in the team is a retired university teacher, and although he grew up in Shanghai, the dance troupe gave him and his team a strong sense of belonging to Taiyuan.
Wan Jinxia, a native of Hunan, is one of the organizers of the dance troupe and has been in the clothing wholesale business in Taiyuan for 20 years. In recent years, square dancing has risen, and she has found a spiritual habitat in dancing. In the past 8 years, there has been a lot of turnover in the dance troupe, with more than 100 people in the WeChat group, and many members of the team who used to do business here have left Taiyuan to find another way, but the deep friendship has kept them in touch.

Graceful dancing is the result of practicing together every night. The event is not as grand as the professional troupe, but it is simple, intense, and infectious, enough to make everyone feel their happiness. During the New Year's party, the dance was dancing on the stage, and the team members sent a performance to the WeChat group, which attracted praise from the team members from other places, and said: "Lively!" I really want to dance with you. ”
Since most of them are businessmen, the average age of the dance team members is also younger than that of other square dance teams, and several "post-80s" members play a role in enlivening the atmosphere. At the party, they wore festive red flower jackets, colorful headscarves, and sunglasses to make exaggerated and funny performances, which made everyone laugh. On the short ** platform, the most common thing that the team members share is also their dancing routine. "Teacher Ping" often starts live broadcasts when the dance troupe dances and exercises at night, conveying his optimistic and positive attitude towards life to netizens.
This party was our last moment of relaxation before the Chinese New Year. "At the end of the year, many team members will close their shops and return to their hometowns for the New Year, and the reunion of the dance troupe will have to wait until after the New Year.
