On the morning of February 1, 2024, the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court publicly pronounced a verdict on the intentional homicide case of the defendant Jiang Wenhua in accordance with the law, and sentenced Jiang Wenhua to death for intentional homicide, with a two-year reprieve, and deprivation of political rights for life; Restrictions on commutation of defendant Jiang Wenhua's sentence.
After the trial, it was ascertained that the defendant Jiang Wenhua was serving as a young researcher under the appointment system in the School of Mathematical Sciences of Fudan University, and because of his unsatisfactory work, he became angry with Wang Moumou, secretary of the party committee of the college, and purchased knives in advance to wait for the opportunity to retaliate. On the afternoon of June 7, 2021, Jiang Wenhua entered the office of the victim Wang Moumou in Guanghua Building, on the Handan Road campus of Fudan University, with a sharp knife prepared in advance, and stabbed Wang dozens of times in the neck and torso, causing Wang to die on the spot. After committing the crime, Jiang Wenhua waited at the scene knowing that others had called the police, and truthfully confessed the crime after arriving at the case. After evaluation, Jiang Wenhua suffers from ** depressive disorder and has the capacity to limit criminal responsibility in this case.
The Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Jiang Wenhua intentionally and unlawfully deprived others of their lives, causing the death of one person, and that his conduct constituted the crime of intentional homicide. Jiang Wenhua committed the crime in a premeditated manner, his methods were cruel, the consequences were serious, and he should be severely punished in accordance with law.
The public prosecutor, the defendant and his defender, and the victim's litigator appear in court to participate in the announcement of the verdict. More than 20 people, including members of the Shanghai CPPCC, family members of the parties and the public, participated in the hearing.
