Huan Huanxi went back to his grandparents' house for a reunion, but he didn't expect that 9-year-old Ming Ming (pseudonym) accidentally injured his left eye due to playing with firecrackers, which made the family worried. After careful treatment by the medical team of the Cornea and Ocular Surface Department of Wuhan Aier Ophthalmology Hankou Hospital, the condition of his left eye recovered well and he was successfully discharged from the hospital on the morning of February 21.
A week ago, Ming Ming was playing with firecrackers in front of his house, and after lighting two of them, he quickly threw them into the distance, but one went off and the other didn't. Driven by curiosity, he obviously went over to take a look, but he didn't know that the squib suddenly exploded, and the flying foreign object injured his left eye. Immediately, his left eye developed redness, eye pain, photophobia, tearing and other symptoms, and was sent to the hospital on the same day to receive related **. The next day, he still felt that his left eye could not be opened, so his family hurriedly took him to Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital Hankou Hospital for treatment.

Chen Dan, deputy chief physician of the Department of Cornea and Ocular Surface of the hospital, carefully examined and found that the cornea of the left eye was damaged, combined with multiple corneal foreign bodies, and there may be mud and nitrate chips in the wound, which required emergency surgery. After determining the surgical plan, the emergency medical staff opened a green channel for Ming Ming and sent him to the operating room in the afternoon of the same day. Subsequently, the medical team of the Cornea and Ocular Surface Department successfully removed the foreign body in the eye for Ming Ming surgery.
Trauma is limited to scalding of the ocular surface tissue and superficial and middle corneal damage, but after the left eye heals, there will be mild corneal scarring, which will increase astigmatism and affect the quality of vision. Professor Zeng Qingyan, president of the hospital and director of the Department of Cornea and Ocular Surface, said that every year around the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, it is a high incidence period for fireworks and firecrackers to hurt the eyes. The damage to the eyes caused by fireworks and firecrackers mainly comes from high temperatures, chemical burns, foreign body injuries and impact injuries. The high-temperature substances they bring can burn the eyebrows, eyelashes, cause disfigurement, facial scars, etc., burn the surface tissues of the eyes, and cause burns of the eyelids and conjunctiva and cornea, foreign body injuries and even penetrating injuries.
Professor Zeng Qingyan reminded that once you are injured by fireworks, do not open your eyes for examination, do not rub your eyes, squeeze your eyes hard, and do not rinse your eyes or apply ointment by yourself to prevent the sticky content in your eyes from flowing out and aggravating your condition; Cover your eyes with clean gauze and a towel before seeking medical attention immediately.
