The most beautiful and cold winter, the glimmer warms people's hearts. Today is the last day of our Spark Hope Teaching Team in Qujia Village, after a week of getting along, we have already mingled with the local children, and seeing their smiling faces every day is like the warmest sun shining on me this winter. On the afternoon of February 4th, I finished the last English Q&A class for the children.
After the first two classes of essay practice, the children's English composition level has grown far beyond my expectations, they will take every essay question seriously, and never miss any opportunity to improve. Today is my summary of their progress in English composition during this period and guidance on the next direction.
First of all, I praised them for their efforts in English composition during this time, "The night is inevitably dark, and there must be a light forward." Although I know that it may be very difficult for these children who do not have such a good foundation in English to write an English essay independently, all the children here have taken the first step bravely with my encouragement. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", I believe that as long as they are willing to practice, they will become more and more proficient in English.
Having said that, I still very seriously pointed out their mistakes and mistakes in the composition practice regarding the examination of questions, structure, sentence structure, and grammar. In the next 30 minutes, I first led the children to carefully analyze the information and requirements of the question stem, and taught them how to quickly extract the information that can be used in the essay and the needs of your essay from the question stem. Then I started from all the children's essays themselves, pointed out the 7 mistakes and deductions of their coexistence, focusing on the structure and composition of English sentences, the formal change and use of be verbs, the difference between the nominative case and the adjective object pronoun and other knowledge points, among which many children can rush to answer the knowledge points, after I finished, the original taciturn children can also choose the answer correctly, which makes me very happy. While the sharp ice peaks that pierce the calm waters may be just the tip of the iceberg, sometimes it's only one step at a time that can really solve all the problems.
In the last 10 minutes, I chose to lead the children to study the model carefully. Haruki Murakami once said, "The so-called originality is nothing else, but deliberate imitation", and I think that growing up in imitation is a good way to quickly improve the English composition level of this group of children. After I explained in detail the wonderful sentence structure and grammar knowledge in the excellent model essay, the children were also eager to try it and couldn't wait to write the following variant essay questions. Their feedback made me feel that the courses I provided for them were helpful to them, and it also strengthened my original intention in volunteering: to be a teacher that children really need.
The happy journey is always short, and the three English composition lessons have benefited the children a lot, learning the English knowledge they really need, and at the same time, my soul is gradually boiling hot in getting along with the children. The significance of education may be enough to stir up the deafening at this moment. I hope that in the future, we can lead more children to see a better tomorrow and appreciate a wider world through more volunteer teaching activities.
