Nearly 25% of Tesla Cybertruck buyers opt for extended-range battery packs, which take up parking space, reduce payload, and cost an estimated $16,000.
This is based on crowdsourcing data found in Cybertruck Owner's Club. We need to note that while this data was found to be fairly accurate, it only included those who submitted to that **. Therefore, in terms of totals, the data is expected to be lower than the actual figures, but the percentages should be close to accurate. The extended-range battery pack adds about 120 miles of range, but there are also many drawbacks. First of all, it drastically reduces the size of the bed, and it has to be installed by Tesla, so it's not something you can casually decide to pack or not to fit.
As some background, Tesla says that the Cybertruck AWD and the top-of-the-line Cyberbeast with a three-motor AWD will get an extended-range option that will increase the range from 340 to over 470 miles and 320 to over 440 miles, respectively. We should also note that Elon Musk said that future versions of the range extender will be able to give the Cybertruck a range of 500 miles or more. So maybe it's worth waiting for that.
