Although we often say that the United Nations is like a mascot and does not play a good role in many international affairs, this is more of a joke or a little resentment in it.
From a rational point of view, the United Nations remains one of the most important international organizations and one of the important channels through which China has always played an active role.
However, looking back at those years, New China's road to return to the United Nations can be described as very difficult, and it has repeatedly been opposed by the United States and other countries, and there has been no way to restore China's legitimate seat and various rights in the United Nations.
It was not until October 25, 1971, at the 1976th plenary meeting of the 26th session of the United Nations General Assembly that it was finally adopted by an overwhelming majority of 76 votes in favor, 35 votes against and 17 abstentions, restoring all the legitimate rights and interests of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations.
When the voting results came out, the audience burst into thunderous applause and congratulated our country. But a closer look reveals that some delegates appear to be very lonely because they voted against or abstained.
Now, when we look back at this period of history, we will find that in 1971, when China returned to the United Nations, it was bornFour countries in Asia voted against, what are the names of these four countries?
The first: Japan
There is nothing to say about this, and the blood and hatred of the War of Resistance against Japan are still vivid. At that time, relations with our country had not yet been normalized, so it was strange that they could vote in favor.
In addition, after Japan's defeat in World War II, it was taken over by the American garrison, and it followed the United States in diplomacy, but the United States did not nod its head, and even if Japan wanted us to return to the United Nations, it did not dare to vote in favor.
Second: the Philippines
We must not think that the Philippines' relations with our country have deteriorated only in recent years, but in fact, the Philippines' relations with us have not been very good.
This is partly because we have a territorial dispute, and partly because the Philippines has close ties with the United States.
Many people may not know that the Philippines was once an American colony.
In 1898, the Spanish-American War broke out, after which Spain was defeated and the "Paris Peace Treaty" was signed, and the United States took over the Philippines, and the Philippines became a colony of the United States.
During World War II, Japan defeated the Philippine U.S. forces and occupied the Philippines. But after World War II, the Philippines re-emerged as a colony of the United States.
It was not until July 4, 1946, when the United States agreed to the independence of the Philippines, that the Philippines gained full independence.
The post-independence Philippines is closely behind the United States and is in line with the United States on many foreign policies, so it is not surprising to vote against it.
The third: Saudi Arabia
China and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations in 1990, and even if relations began to ease, it was in the late 70s and early 80s of the 20th century.
Earlier, due to the influence of the Cold War environment, Saudi Arabia's relations with China were average, although it did not have a deep hatred, but due to the influence of the United States, it also voted against it.
Fourth: Cambodia
This is quite surprising, in the impression of many people, Cambodia and our country have a very good relationship, why did they vote against?
This has to be analyzed from the historical perspective of the time.
In 1958, Cambodia established diplomatic relations with China, and the two sides have very close relations.
But in March 1970, at the instigation of the United States, Lon Nol staged a coup d'état on the occasion of Prince Sihanouk's foreign visit and took control of Cambodia.
Is this still worth it? You know, Sihanouk is an old friend of our Chinese, and the old friend was stolen, of course we have to help him, so we said that the Lon Nol regime was illegal and openly supported Sihanouk.
Because of this, the Lon Nol regime resented us, and in 1971, when China returned to the United Nations, Cambodia controlled by the Lon Nol regime voted against it at the United Nations General Assembly.
Still, it didn't help.
China's return to the United Nations is the trend of the times and the will of the people, and even if a few countries block it, it will not be able to stop it!!
