How to cancel the Apple silent vibration

Mondo Technology Updated on 2024-02-01

When you set your iPhone to silent mode, your device will vibrate by default to alert you to new notifications or calls. But on some occasions, you may not want your phone to vibrate, so how to cancel this feature? Here are the detailed steps:

Through physical switches: Apple phones usually have a physical switch on the side for quickly switching between ringer mode and silent mode. All you have to do is flip this switch to ringer mode and turn off both mute and vibrate at the same time.

Use Control Center: If you're using iOS 12 or later, you can open Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner of the screen (iPhone X and later) or from the bottom of the screen (iPhone 8 and earlier). Here, tap on the bell icon to toggle the ringtone and silent mode. Note, however, that this method may not turn off the vibration directly, it depends on your previous settings.

Go to the settings menu

Open the Settings app.

Scroll and find "Sounds & Haptics" or "Sounds" (depending on your iOS version).

In this menu, you'll see the option to "Vibration in silent mode" or something similar. Tap on it and then turn it off.

Use accessibility shortcuts: For those users who have difficulty physically operating the switch, Apple provides accessibility shortcuts. You can go to Settings - Accessibility - Touch, find "AssistiveTouch" or "AssistiveTouch" and turn it on. Then, a virtual button will appear on the screen that you can customize to do, including quickly switching between mute and vibration modes.

Consider Do Not Disturb: If you just want to turn off all sounds and vibrations for a specific amount of time, consider using Do Not Disturb mode. Turn on Do Not Disturb in Settings and set the time period you want. During this time, all calls, notifications, and alarms will be silenced and will not vibrate.

Please note that there may be slight differences in the interface between different versions of iOS, but the basic settings path is similar. If you can't find an option, try using the search function, which has a search box at the top of the Settings app and can quickly find a setting by typing in a keyword like "vibrate."
