According to *** local time on February 17, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and minister of the Communist Party of China, met with Canadian Foreign Minister Joly on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Wang Yi said that China-Canada relations have long been at the forefront of China's relations with Western countries, and the current difficult situation is not what China wants to see. It is in the fundamental interests of both countries to promote the stabilization of China-Canada relations and achieve improved development. The economies of China and Canada are highly complementary, there is no fundamental conflict of interests, and the two sides are not rivals, let alone enemies, and should become partners. China and Canada have different systems, histories and cultures, so we should respect each other, learn from each other, expand consensus, rebuild trust, and achieve win-win cooperation.

Wang Yi clarified his position on bringing China-Canada relations back to a healthy and stable track, and hoped that the Canadian side would establish a correct understanding of China, grasp bilateral relations with a long-term perspective, and provide positive expectations for practical cooperation. Stop hyping up the China threat theory, stop spreading disinformation about the so-called "China's interference in internal affairs", stop the pan-security of economic, trade and scientific and technological exchanges, earnestly respect each other's core interests, and take concrete actions to safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations.

Jolly extended Chinese New Year greetings to the Chinese side, saying that Canada pursues pragmatic diplomacy and is committed to improving Canada-China relations, and is willing to work with China to overcome difficulties, build trust, carry out cooperation in climate change, biodiversity, public health and other fields, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges. The Canadian side will continue to pursue the one-China policy.

The two sides also exchanged views on the conflict in Ukraine and Gaza.
