Chinese scientists receive international awards in hematology.

The International Blood and Marrow Transplantation Research Center presented the Outstanding Service Award to Professor Huang Xiaojun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Institute of Hematology of Peking University, on the 23rd, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to international hematology by creating the "Beijing Program" for haploidentical bone marrow transplantation.

The 2024 Annual Transplantation & Cell** Conference was held in San Antonio, Texas, USA from the 21st to the 24th. At the award ceremony held during the conference, Michael Furnellis, chair of the Advisory Committee of the International Center for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, said that Huang Xiaojun had created a series of key technologies for non-in vitro deto-T cell haplotype (haploidentical) bone marrow transplantation, which had gradually developed into a "Beijing protocol" based on granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and antithymocyte globulin (ATG). This innovation** has increased the 3-year survival rate for leukemia patients who have undergone haploidentical transplantation from about 20% to about 70%. The key technologies based on the "Beijing Plan" have been promoted to many countries such as South Korea, Italy, and France. The "Beijing Program" is currently the most widely used and most effective haplotype hematopoietic stem cell transplantation system in the world.

Huang Xiaojun also optimized and standardized common key technologies for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, Furneris said; Creation of a new prevention-rescue programme against leukemia**; The compilation of guidelines and the promotion of general techniques have greatly promoted the rapid development of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in China. In addition, he has established an international training center and a demonstration teaching base, trained transplant specialists from many countries, and strengthened exchanges and cooperation with the international hematology community.

Huang Xiaojun said that this honor is not only a recognition of his own and his team's work achievements, but also an incentive for the fast-growing hematopoietic stem cell transplant cause in China. He will strive to make greater contributions to the development of hematology in China and the cooperation between China and the world hematology community.

The International Research Centre for Blood and Marrow Transplantation was established in 1972 to facilitate global data and expert collaboration in this field to facilitate cell-based research. Currently, it collaborates with approximately 350 blood and transplant centers around the world and has presented the Outstanding Service Award annually since 2010 to recognize scientists who have made outstanding contributions to international haematology.

The Annual Meeting on Transplantation and Cell** is co-sponsored by the American Society for Transplantation and Cell** and the International Center for Blood and Marrow Transplant Research.
