Recently, Guangzhou Customs seized 281 dried seahorses and weighing 105 kg.
Previously, when the customs of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Customs, supervised an inbound flight according to the risk control directive, the customs supervision dog "Feifei" found that a passenger's luggage smelled abnormal and may be carrying contraband. After receiving the warning signal sent by "Feifei", the on-site customs officers intercepted and inspected the passenger, and found a bag of dried seahorses packed in a white plastic bag in the passenger's luggage, with a total of 281 tails and a weight of 105 kg.
Seahorses are stingy fish of the family Sea Dragons and prefer to live in the slow currents of coral reefs. Due to human factors and habitat destruction in recent years, the number of seahorses has become increasingly scarce, and it is listed in the appendix of the International Convention on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) for protection, and it is also a national second-class key protected wild animal.
Customs lawyer Shao Dan reminded that according to the "International Convention on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora" and the "People's Republic of China Wildlife Protection" and other laws and regulations, in addition to legally holding the "Certificate of Permission for Import and Export of Endangered Species" and going through customs procedures in accordance with the regulations, it is forbidden to carry and mail all kinds of endangered species and products into and out of the country, and if the circumstances are serious and constitute a crime, criminal responsibility will be investigated in accordance with the law.
