Paris, March 4 (Xinhua) -- On March 4, the official posters of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games were released at the Musée d'Orsay. Created by renowned French illustrator Ugo Gatony, these two posters are a major innovation in the history of Olympic posters, with a variety of elements and details that break with the tradition of previous Olympic poster designs.
On March 4th, the official poster of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, created by French illustrator Ugo Gatony, was officially unveiled at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Photo by Xinhua News Agency reporter Gao Jing As an artist known for his use of color, Gatoni imagined a diverse and prosperous microcosm, including the iconic elements of Paris and France, as well as all the sports of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and also displayed some innovative features of the Paris Olympics. In his own words – this is a surrealist work based on reality.
To highlight the idea that the Olympics and Paralympics are equally important, the two posters can be seen as two separate works or combined into one giant complete poster, with the Olympic Games on the left and the Paralympics on the right.
The inspiration for my design was a huge city stadium in which the landmarks of Paris were rearranged and combined. The Eiffel Tower runs through the middle of the Stade de France, with the Seine, the Arc de Triomphe, the Place de la Concorde and much more. Gatoni introduced.
Viewed from a distance, the whole poster looks like a joyful sports carnival, which is also in line with the vision of the Paris Organising Committee to present a joyful sports event. Up close, the myriad details in the poster will give the viewer the joy of discovery and a new impulse to explore.
There are a total of 8 mascots of the Paris Olympics in the poster, and it will take some time to find them. The Olympic rings and the Paralympic tricolor symbols, the Volkswagen marathon, the Olympic motto, etc., can also be found inside. Gatoni said. Both posters were hand-painted by him, and the entire process took about 2,000 hours to create.
At first, I was counting how many villains I had drawn, but then there were too many to count. I guess there are tens of thousands, and I'll count them to see if there are any viewers interested in this. Gatoni said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency.
Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, was very pleased with the two posters. "It's not just a poster, we want to include as many elements as possible, we want to be different. This is a new attempt in the history of the Olympic Games. Estangue said.
