On March 4, China's first scientific exploration well with a design well depth of more than 10,000 meters, Well Shendi Taco 1, was drilled to a depth of more than 10,000 meters, becoming the second onshore well in the world and the first in Asia with a vertical depth of more than 10,000 meters, marking that China has independently overcome the bottleneck of drilling technology of 10,000-meter-level ultra-deep wells, and the drilling capacity and supporting technology of deep oil and gas have reached the international advanced level.
According to reports, the deep Taco 1 well is located in the hinterland of the Taklamakan Desert, shouldering the two missions of scientific exploration and oil and gas discovery, and is a major "deep project" implemented by PetroChina in the Tarim Oilfield. The well was designed to a depth of 11,100 meters and was drilled on May 30, 2023.
At present, China's onshore deep and ultra-deep oil and gas resources account for 34% of the total oil and gas resources in China, and the proportion of new oil and gas reserves in deep and ultra-deep depths is increasing year by year. The Tarim Basin, where Well Deepground Taco 1 is located, is the only oil and gas basin in the world dominated by ultra-deep resources, and it is also the largest deep oil and gas enrichment area in China.
Ultra-deep has become the main position for increasing the reserves and production of oil and gas resources in China, and advancing to the deep part of the earth is a major strategic task to ensure China's energy security and a major strategic choice to stabilize and secure the energy rice bowl. Sun Jinsheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said.
10,000-meter deep drilling is the field with the most bottlenecks and challenges in oil and gas engineering technology, and it is also one of the important indicators to measure the level of national engineering technology and equipment.
In the face of the extreme temperature and pressure environment of the downhole, PetroChina Tarim Oilfield, Western Drilling, Gem Machinery and other units have carried out joint research, overcome the key technical problems of the ultra-high drilling platform and large load lifting system, and created a number of key core technologies such as safe and efficient drilling and completion of 10,000-meter ultra-deep wells. Wang Chunsheng, chief expert of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield and well manager of Shendi Taco 1 well, introduced, "In the process of drilling, it has set a number of records such as the deepest large-size casing in China, the largest tonnage of casing, and the deepest domestic instrument logging in large-size wellbore. In terms of key quality indicators such as well deviation, well diameter and logging, it has reached a 100% pass rate, formed 21 stage results in 7 categories, and the localization rate of materials and equipment used has reached 90%. ”
It is understood that at present, the Tarim Oilfield is aiming at 11,100 meters and even deeper in the earth, deepening the theoretical understanding of hydrocarbon, storage and accumulation of 10,000 meters, increasing drilling efforts in complex and difficult-to-drill formations, and continuously promoting the iterative upgrading of equipment technology such as 175 megapascal high-pressure wellheads.
In the later stage, we will drill and analyze the core buried 10,000 meters underground, which will not only be of significance in revealing the material composition and structure of the continental crust, exploring the deep fluid system and geothermal structure of the earth, exploring the evolution law of the earth, etc., but will also play an important role in breaking through the traditional geological understanding and forming the geological theory of 10,000 meters of oil and gas accumulation.
