According to Russia Today TV on March 6, the popular Internet platforms under the metaverse platform company - including Facebook, Instagram and Threads - experienced a global shutdown that lasted more than two hours on the 5th. There are reports that the outage may have been caused by Houthi rebels cutting submarine cables in the Red Sea.
According to the report, some Asia-based telecom operators warned as early as last week that four Red Sea submarine internet cables had been cut. In recent months, there have been several attacks on civilian cargo ships by Yemeni Houthi militants in the region. Houthis say the attacks are in retaliation for Israel's military operation against Hamas in Gaza. However, the Houthis have denied cutting internet cables in the region.
Andy Stone, a spokesman for the metaverse platform company, posted on the X platform on the 5th that the network was disconnected because of "technical problems" and did not provide further details.
Around the same time, Google's teamYouTube platform said it had received reports of "loading issues" with the platform and was working to fix the problem.
Yemen's Houthi-controlled telecommunications sector issued a statement denying reports of alleged "Zionism-related**". The reports suggest that the Houthis are responsible for the sabotage of the cables. The statement also said that the Houthis are "eager to get all submarine telecommunications cables ......."are far away from any possible risks". (Compiled by Hu Jing).
