I've always heard this term before, especially in the IT industry where I used to work. When I first started in the industry, some of my senior colleagues were saying that they wanted to transfer to a management position, but I didn't really understand the real reason at that time. I thought it was because it took too much brains to write, and I often had to stay up late. Looking back now, I began to understand their mood a little. And these are the age limits that are often seen on those job advertisements under the age limit of 35 years old.
Until now, I slowly found that there seems to be such an age limit in all walks of life, so that it seems that people at this age are afraid to change jobs, and even if they come out to find a job, they are afraid to set their requirements too high.
Today, the company happened to have a 37-year-old interviewer, who is excellent in all aspects, and has worked hard in the industry for more than ten years, and is a very mature old man. We also talked a lot about the interview, and we learned more about the work content and other aspects, and we were both satisfied with each other. However, she struggled with exposure to a new industry and product type, and although the content of her work was not much different, she still had deep concerns. And we compared the types of products she was engaged in in the industry before, and our products are simply pediatrics compared to them, with two categories and four main products, which is enough time for one morning to get started. But throughout the whole process, she was worried that she would not be able to learn the product, and said that the simpler the product, the more worried she became. And I'm getting older, although the previous products were more complicated, but now I can't compare with the previous ones in all aspects, anyway, I have all kinds of worries. As a result, my overall impression of her has decreased.
Later, at the end of the interview, several of us discussed the final result, and I put forward my own opinion, there are no problems in the overall business operation, and I am completely competent, but I am a little indecisive and not confident enough. In the end, the leader makes a decision, and the internship period will be inspected before deciding.
Originally, everyone unanimously agreed, and it was passed with a high score, but as a result, she was not confident and timid, which led to a discount in the overall impression score. Although the end result was passed, it always had some impact.
From my point of view, although there are various age restrictions in the recruitment market, there will be a market for people who are really capable at any age, so even if you really reach the so-called "mid-life crisis" stage, please be confident, since you can have an interview opportunity, it means that the employer still appreciates you, don't set limits for yourself, you might as well be bold, maybe you will get unexpected surprises.
