Helsinki, 27 February 2024 – Over the past decade (2009-2023), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) ECHA has reviewed more than 15,000 chemical registration dossiers. As of last year, the proportion of REACH registration files reviewed has increased to 20%, a significant increase from 5% in 2019. At the same time, ECHA also carried out compliance checks on 30% of the high-tonnage registered substances (with an annual production of more than 100 tons).

In 2023, more than 1,750 REACH dossiers were filed, covering 274 substances, and 301 dossier compliance reviews were carried out, with the aim of supplementing potentially missing information to improve the safety of these chemical substances. So far, ECHA has made more than 251 data completion requests to many companies.

In the coming years, ECHA will continue to make compliance review of registration dossiers a top priority. In addition, the Joint Evaluation Action Plan developed by ECHA in 2019 will be further discussed and planned at the Integrated Regulatory Strategy Workshop to be held in March this year.

CIRS reiterates that obtaining a registration number under REACH is only the beginning of compliance, not the end of REACH. Any changes to the registration information, including but not limited to changes in the registration entity, updates to the safe use guidelines, adjustments to the conditions of use or exposure scenarios, and updates to the material hazard information, are required to immediately revise the registration file.
