On March 1, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Romania answered a reporter's question on Romania's refusal to allow Huawei to participate in the construction of 5G networks

Q: On February 29, Romania issued an official communiqué rejecting Huawei's application for authorization for 5G infrastructure equipment. What is your comment on this?

A: We are concerned that Luo ** rejected Huawei's application for authorization of 5G infrastructure equipment. We deeply regret and express our grave concern about this.

Since the promulgation of the Law on Several Measures Concerning the Implementation Conditions of Information and Communication Infrastructure and 5G Networks Involving National Interests, the Chinese Embassy in Romania has repeatedly solemnly stated its position and expressed its solemn concern to Romania, political parties, parliaments and other relevant parties. We resolutely oppose the exclusion of any country or enterprise with non-technical standards and discriminatory clauses, and resolutely oppose acts that undermine the principle of fair competition and the spirit of the rule of law. Over the past 20 years, Huawei has strictly complied with Romanian laws and regulations and maintained a good cybersecurity record. Huawei has actively participated in Romania's communications network construction and is committed to promoting China-Romania ICT cooperation, creating thousands of jobs and making positive contributions to Romania's fiscal and tax revenue, the development of the digital economy, and the construction of information infrastructure. We believe that if Romania provides a favorable market environment, Huawei will be able to make greater contributions to Romania's ICT development, and Chinese enterprises' investment in Romania will be further expanded, so as to better benefit the Romanian people. On the contrary, the interests of the broad masses of Romanian people and the economic and trade cooperation between China and Romania will inevitably be substantially harmed.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Romania. Cooperation between the two sides on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit is in the common interests of the two countries. It is hoped that Romania will proceed from its long-term interests, adhere to the principles of fairness, justice and non-discrimination, create a good environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Romania, and take concrete actions to safeguard the overall situation of bilateral pragmatic cooperation. China** will continue to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
