Not a single ship.

It can be like a book.

Take us on a journey far away without a single horse.

It can be like a page of poetry.

So joyful.

Even if you're destitute, it can take you on the road.

A journey with no travel fees.

This chariot is unpretentious.

But it carries the soul of a man!

Translated by Zhao Youting.

Before I was thirty, I never thought I would record a bilingual poem**. Just like before I was twenty, I never imagined that I would step into the entertainment industry. This ** is just like the 5% in my life, it seems to be just a small tip, but it makes me happy.

The first time I read Oscar Wilde's "To My Wife: A Collection of Poems About Me" in Reading Poetry for You, I was so frightened that I didn't know how well I read it, so I went back and listened to it, and repeatedly confirmed with the people around me: "Is it really a good read?" Is it okay? "Everybody likes it.

After listening to it, Yuanyuan gave me direct encouragement: "It's really good, and there is no Taiwanese accent." My mother even worried that the Internet would disappear one day, and asked me to get the original file from Read Poetry for You. Now, she listens to it every night to sleep.

All of this made me suddenly realize that reading and listening to poetry is actually a kind of communication like plant photosynthesis. You pour out your words and feelings with affection, and she receives and radiates peace and happiness again. The whole process, like the breath of a plant at night, is silent, slow, powerful, and full of ritual.

Such a sense of ritual is very good.

Growing up, my parents wanted the "home" to retain more traditional looks, such as:

Watching TV and swiping mobile phones are not allowed during meals, and each other should pay attention to food and each other;

No matter how late it is, leave a night light for the family member who returns late to make him feel that someone is waiting;

During the Spring Festival, you should kowtow to your elders to express gratitude and respect;

In addition, my father also taught us an important lesson: how to be a gentleman by being polite to women. I don't know what he learned from **. I have the impression that my grandfather was not so British. But my father just learned so much and taught us.

My mother was very, very romantic, and it had a lot to do with my father. At home, my mother always comes first, and he is willing to be a disadvantaged group. If a family of four was out in a car, my mother would habitually stand by the car door. One of the three of us will definitely help her open the car door first.

In Western education, I particularly appreciate the idea of "speak up if you have love". It's hard for my parents to say "I love you" all the time, but we have a lot of hugs and these loving behaviors with each other.

Among the poems** recorded this time, there is a love poem called "To the Wife", written by Eliot, the author of "The Waste Land". The last two lines of the poem are moving:

This dedication is for others to read:

It was my blatant whisper to you.

It is wonderful to be able to talk about love in such a high-level way, and it is full of love. The most important thing is this confession, with a strong conviction of love and courage:

I love you, and I am not afraid of others prying eyes, nor am I afraid of others knowing.

Every day reminds the people you love that you love them, and this kind of expression of love seems to be an overstatement. Who doesn't need to hear a confession of love and see a warm smile?

Poetry seems to me to be such a confession, a smile. Not only for lovers, but also for family, friends, and strangers.

It took nearly four days to record this photo, and I and the literary advisors and editors of Read for You selected 12 poems from thousands of English and American poems.

Among them, there are love poems such as Eliot's "To His Wife" and Yeats's "When You Are Old", as well as Lawrence's "Listening" and Wordsworth's "I Roam Alone, Like a Cloud" and other works that dialogue with all things in nature; There are also "Faith", which tells us that "you will never be alone", and "The Road Not Taken", a poem about life choices, ......

The biggest feeling I have about recording is enjoyment. Quietly adding a voice to each poem without distractions is not only a re-creation, but also a self-baptism.

Zhao Youting is recording a bilingual poetry collection of Read Poems for You.

I'm glad that 5% of my life is reserved for poetry and literature. In my parents' education, they didn't expect much from us, nor did they set what they wanted us to become.

But when I was very young, they used to leave my brother and me in the bookstore for an afternoon. Although we are also crazy about playing games and video games, we can always find a little time to read a book.

If I still retain a little bit of literary and life sensitivity in terms of language and perception, it is actually due to my parents.

When my brothers and I were young, my mother took us to Canada to study in a city called Victoria. Victoria is not a big place, with an island climate, a small population, but it is beautiful.

Our house is just a minute or two away from the sea, and raccoons, squirrels and deer are often seen in the backyard. The people here don't seem to have any ambition and live slowly. In Victoria, just do one thing a day, and you have tomorrow.

It was the first time we had stayed in a strange country for such a long time. It was difficult to buy Chinese books abroad, and my father, worried that our Chinese was unfamiliar, would bring a suitcase of books when he visited us every few months.

It was at this time that I began to read a lot about Jin Yong. Jin Yong is a milestone author for me. The protagonist of his pen is extremely bloody and heroic, which makes people feel that as a man, he should swallow mountains and rivers like a tiger.

The first time I saw Guo Jing running on the prairie, I thought he was the kind of book person I wanted to be. But until he met Duan Yu, Fang Jue felt that this was the ideal life:

You don't need to take any responsibility, and then fall in love with a woman infatuatedly.

There is endless glory and wealth, and you can inexplicably become a peerless master.

How nice - no one expects you to do anything, but you can.

Unlike the ideal character Duan Yu, my college days can be described as "displaced, stumbling". When I graduated from high school, I didn't know what to study or what I was interested in.

Every time I saw a commercial on TV, I often felt that I could come up with better ideas, so at the suggestion of my tutor, I chose a major that combined programming and design.

Because I don't know how to code at all, I sit in front of the computer and type programs all the time, which is really painful. The pain is that even if you're painting, you're working on art, you feel like it's all aesthetic labor.

Later, after discussing with her mother, she said: You are eloquent and popular, so it is better to study business and do business. Come to think of it, this one is not bad either.

So I switched to business in the second year of college. Later, an invitation from the showbiz suddenly came, so he entered the showbiz industry in this way.

Time passes in a straight line, and there is no way for us to go back in time. The road of life is always like this, and one road connects the other, one intersection waits for the next.

When a fork in the road suddenly appears, I often tell myself that it would be nice to see what the fork in the road represents.

I'm not a particularly talented person, but I often feel like I have a lot of artistic and aesthetic things to express. It wasn't until I came into contact with performance that I finally felt that there was finally a medium through which my inner creative inspiration and desire could be completely released.

When I first debuted, I returned to Taipei from Canada, and I felt very new to Taipei, and one of the pleasures I found was listening to the Walkman alone on a busy street, such as Zhongxiao East Road, and then sitting there reading a book or observing the people coming and going. When you see someone very special, you guess their background and design their story.

Anyone who is seventeen or eighteen years old is like this, always thinking a lot. In case one or two more philosophy classes, read a few philosophy books, and think even more, I am like this:

Am I alive? Who am I?

Why am I here?

What is the value of my existence? What's the point?

But after a few experiences, you will find out:

Don't overthink about the present, and don't worry about tomorrow

Wake up in the morning

Just be bathed in the sun

Have a good breakfast

It is a stable and ordinary happiness

As a professional actor, in addition to communicating with people through movies and TV series, there are few opportunities to share more. In the past few years, I have often done something that seems silly - that is, I look up at the sky and do a big stretch, which I call "photosynthesis", a kind of "photosynthesis between man and nature".

Every time I do this, there is always a moment when time seems to stand still, but the switch of the body seems to be completely turned on, as if some secret has been exchanged with the world.

In fact, everyone has their own switch, but we often refuse to turn it on because of some trivial annoyances. So I don't just do it myself regularly, but I also call on my family, friends, work partners, and audience members to do it together.

Zhao Youting, "Photosynthesis".

It's nice to work every day, walk with your head down, look at the sky occasionally, and listen to the sounds of nature and the people around you. For me, this audio poem** is essentially photosynthesis in another sense.

I'm apprehensive, but I hope the more people hear about it, the better.

Content** in "Read poems for you").
