The reason why it is called "Siling" should be because at that time the Southern Ming Dynasty had agreed on the temple name "Sizong" for Chongzhen, and the Manchu Qing Dynasty adopted this meaning. In the second year of Shunzhi, Siling completed the construction. However, at that time, the imperial court was also short of money, so that Siling was intermittent and intermittent. For this reason, Dorgon issued a strict order that it must be built as soon as possible. It can be seen that Dolgon still attaches great importance to the construction of Siling. In the sixteenth year of Shunzhi, Siling added some buildings and completed the second repair. Later, in the tenth year of Qianlong and the fiftieth year of Qianlong, Siling was repaired twice. Especially in the 50th year of Qianlong, Qianlong repaired the entire Ming Ming Tombs, including the Siling Tombs. So, why did the Manchu Dynasty attach so much importance to the construction of Siling? I think there are three reasons why they are doing this. First, win people's hearts.
Because the Ming Dynasty ruled for 300 years, the common people had a deep affection for the Ming Dynasty, and there were many old and young people. Whether it is the Dashun Dynasty established by Li Zicheng or the Qing Dynasty, they are not easy to be accepted by the common people. The ruler of the Great Shun Dynasty used to be a "thief", which was relatively resistant in the hearts of the ancients. The rulers of the Qing Dynasty were even more barbarians, and the common people at that time were to accept the regime established by this ethnic minority. Therefore, in order to cater to the emotions of the common people, it became very important to repair the Siling Tomb of the Ming Dynasty. Second, it shows that the new dynasty is "the destiny of heaven". Whether it is Li Zicheng or the Manchu Qing Dynasty, after establishing the imperial court, they all want to show that their imperial court is "the destiny of heaven" and that they are in accordance with the will of heaven to establish a dynasty. The rulers of the previous dynasty were also "mandated by heaven".
But after a certain period of development, when the qi is exhausted, it will be replaced by a new dynasty, and this new dynasty is also a dynasty that conforms to the mandate of heaven. In this way, the Manchu Qing Dynasty has become "orthodox". Since the previous dynasty is still a dynasty that "belongs to the destiny of heaven", it is natural that the rulers of the previous dynasty should be treated well. Third, establish the majesty of the emperor. Let's say that when Zhu Yuanzhang fought the world, in order to be able to successfully succeed in the Northern Expedition, he played the slogan "Expelling Hulu and Restoring China", calling on the people of the whole country to rise up and overthrow the rule of the Yuan Dynasty with him. Later, after he had established his rule, he changed his words and said that our ancestors lived in the Yuan Dynasty for generations, and the Yuan Dynasty emperor raised us, so we should treat the Yuan Dynasty emperor and his relatives well. Zhu Yuanzhang specifically mentioned here that the emperor of the previous dynasty "raised" the common people. He just said that let the people at the moment understand that you were "raised" by the emperor and me. Therefore, the Qing Dynasty treated Emperor Chongzhen well and repaired his mausoleum many times, which is also what he expressed.
