In order to enhance the public's awareness of meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation and the ability to cope with extreme weather, in 2014, the Liuzhou Meteorological Bureau's "Clouds and Winds" science popularization volunteer service project was launched. After 10 years, the Liuzhou Meteorological Science Popularization Volunteer Service Team was awarded the "Best Volunteer Service Project" in the 2023 Guangxi Xue Lei Feng Volunteer Service Advanced Model Publicity and Selection Activity because it has expanded the coverage of meteorological science popularization in an all-round way and significantly improved the public's meteorological science literacy.
In order to optimize the chain of "scientific research-popular science" and build the content of grassroots meteorological science popularization, the Liuzhou Meteorological Bureau organized volunteers with technical expertise in weather forecasting, applied meteorology, electronic information, and new design to set up a popular science innovation team to develop characteristic meteorological popular science works for different groups of people.
Among them, in order to do a good job in popularizing public meteorological science, a series of popular science animations and cartoons on disaster weather prevention, lightning protection and disaster reduction manuals, meteorological songs and meteorological law classroom series of animations have been compiled. These works have been widely used in meteorological science popularization volunteer service activities and meteorological science popularization and learning in Guangxi and abroad, forming a model of grassroots meteorological science popularization.
Since the establishment of the "Clouds and Winds" science popularization volunteer service team, based on the characteristics of the meteorological industry and the characteristics of work, different forms of science popularization and promotion have been carried out. In order to let the public understand the meteorological science knowledge more intuitively, the project team launched the original science theme characters "Clouds" and "Wind Gusts", and compiled more than 40 series of characteristic works in the form of stories. The project team has also carefully built online service platforms such as "Liuzhou Meteorological Science Base AR Venue" and "Liuzhou New Meteorology" WeChat *** and ** accounts, so that citizens can keep abreast of weather changes.
The Liuzhou Meteorological Bureau has successively built a variety of meteorological science popularization venues such as Tianyan Wind and Cloud Measurement, Meteorological Science Popularization Model, and Meteorological Anchor Experience, and accepted different groups of people to enter and visit. The bureau also organized the city's meteorological science and technology personnel to carry out training and guidance for various types of meteorological science information personnel in villages, communities, schools, etc., and the number of meteorological science popularization volunteers is about 5,000 people.
The "clouds and winds" science popularization volunteer service team actively "go out" and create diversified "public science popularization" services. Today, relying on the brand series of original works, the project team has jointly carried out activities such as "Science Popularization Dream and Rural Love", "Science Popularization to the Future, Travel to Liuzhou", "Meteorological Science Popularization into Campus" and "Meteorological Science Popularization in Thousands of Towns and Villages" with Liuzhou Association for Science and Technology, Education Bureau, Mass Art Museum, and relevant departments of the county and district, etc., and extensively and continuously carried out meteorological science popularization volunteer service activities for different groups such as minors, left-behind children, farmers, and community residents.
Because of the remarkable results, the Liuzhou Meteorological Bureau's "Clouds and Winds" science popularization volunteer service project has been established 10 years ago, and has won more than 30 awards such as National Excellent Meteorological Science Popularization, Guangxi Top Ten Science Popularization, Bagui Science Popularization Action, Guangxi Meteorological Science and Technology, etc.
