On March 5, according to the Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission, in accordance with the new GB T 14272-2021 "Down Clothing" standard, the Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission evaluated 70 down jackets on the market, ranging from 138 yuan to 13,230 yuan.
Focusing on the hygienic safety and warmth of the products concerned by consumers, this evaluation tested the alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO), decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, turbidity cleanliness, odor, down content, down filling capacity, fluffiness, heat transfer performance, velvet + feather silk and so on. Among the 70 down jackets, 34 were collected from e-commerce platforms such as Tmall, JD.com, Douyin, and Dewu, and 36 were collected from offline physical stores such as shopping malls and brand stores. On the whole, there are many problems with the samples obtained online, especially in the live broadcast room, and some brands have problems with test indicators such as filling amount and velvet content.
1. Health and safety
A down jacket for the winter is the norm, and for such a piece of carry-on equipment, safety is the primary consideration for consumers.
The health and safety of down jackets are mainly considered from four aspects: alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO), decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, turbidity, cleanliness, and odor.
APEO is one of the most commonly used raw materials in detergents in the down industry, which has the characteristics of low cost and stable properties, but excessive amounts may affect the normal hormone secretion of the human body and endanger health. The new national standard has clear requirements for APEO with reference to the EU standard, requiring that the APEO content should be:
The results showed that the turbidity, cleanliness, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dye and odor of 70 samples met the standard requirements, but the APEO of 3 samples exceeded the limit, of which the APEO content of the down jacket (nominal brand: Bandi Bear) sold by Jiaxing City through Kaicheng Nanguxi ** Commercial Bank and produced by Jiaxing Lingxuan *** was 29356 mg/kg。

2. Warmth
What is the filling volume? "This is a question that consumers will definitely pay attention to when choosing down jackets.
The filling amount refers to the total weight of all down filled in the down jacket, and the level of the filling amount will affect the warmth of the down jacket. The down is mainly composed of down, feather, velvet, etc., among which the velvet plays a role in keeping warm, and the feather and velvet are the monofilaments that fall off the down, and there is no fluffy feeling. If the down content is low and the down + feather content is high, it will not only affect the warmth effect, but also increase the risk of down drilling and reduce the quality of the down jacket.
The standard requires that down garments must be marked with the amount of down and the content of down. The results showed that the measured content of the down filling amount or down content of some brands was less than the claim, and the pile + feather content exceeded the standard limit. Among them, there are problems in many test indicators such as down filling amount and down content. For example, the product label clearly indicates that the down content is 90% white duck down, the down filling amount is 380g, and the measured down content is only 367% duck down, the filling amount is only 292g;In fact, the content of velvet + feather silk is 473%, more than 4 times the standard (standard value: 10%).
After our committee notified the company of the results of this comparative test, it attracted great attention from the enterprise, and many brands immediately stopped selling and took the initiative to recall the same batch of products that had been sold.
3. Consumption tips
1.Check the logo.
View hangtags and labels. The tag should be marked with the factory name, factory address, fiber content, washing identification, quality grade, implementation of the standard code and other information. According to the standard regulations of down jackets, important information such as the type of down (duck down or goose down), down content (e.g. 80%), and filling amount (e.g. 200g) must be clearly marked.
2.Look at sewing.
Observe the sewing quality of down jackets. Whether the wiring is neat and whether there are fine fluffs drilled out. If it is found that there is a more obvious hair drill out on the surface of the fabric or lining, it is possible to drill down after wearing, but it is normal for a small amount of hair to drill out from the seam.
3.Measure rebound.
Relax the down jacket and let it recover naturally for 3 to 5 minutes, then press the down jacket with both hands, then release your hands to observe its rebound recovery. The faster the rebound recovers, the better the fill power. If it does not rebound or rebounds slowly and the rebound height is very low, it means that the filling down is of poor quality.
4.Smell the smell.
Put your nose close to the down jacket and smell the smell inside, and check for fishy smell and odor. If there is obvious fishy smell and peculiar smell, it means that the down raw materials have not been processed or strictly washed and disinfected.
