After being taken to court by former founder Elon Musk, artificial intelligence (AI) giant OpenAI has responded.

On March 1, local time, it was reported that in an internal memo of OpenAI, company executives questioned Musk's accusations and said that they were dissatisfied that they were no longer part of the company. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in the memo that Musk is his hero and said that he misses the former Musk.

OpenAI CEO Sam AltmanOpenAI's chief strategy officer, Jason Kwon, wrote in an internal memo, "We believe that the claims in this lawsuit may stem from Elon's regretful ...... that he is no longer involved in the company's affairs today."I'm deeply disappointed to see Elon take this kind of action with the company he helped start, especially given his close collaboration with some of you who are still here working on your mission."

On February 29, local time, Musk filed a lawsuit with the San Francisco Superior Court, suing OpenAI and Ultraman for breach of contract. Musk said in the lawsuit that Altman and OpenAI violated an agreement reached when the AI research company was founded to develop technology for the benefit of humanity rather than profit. Musk claims that OpenAI's relationship with tech giant Microsoft has undermined the company's initial goal of working on public, open-source artificial general intelligence (AGI).

In the lawsuit, Musk demanded that OpenAI restore open source. It also asked the court for an injunction prohibiting OpenAI, its presidents, Gregory Brockman and Altman, and Microsoft from profiting from the company's general artificial intelligence technology.

Musk and Sam Altman have had a discussion about AI security. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 and stepped down from the board in 2018.

According to the lawsuit, Musk rented OpenAI's initial office space and invested more than $44 million in OpenAI from 2016 to September 2020.

At the beginning of the company, Musk and Altman discussed whether it was safer for a large company to control a small number of AI systems, or a large number of independent systems. At the time, both men thought the latter was safer.

OpenAI also bills itself as a non-profit AI research company and has announced that the company's mission is to "ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity."

Musk tweeted about the early days of OpenAI and said, "Look what's going on now." In 2019, OpenAI transformed from a non-profit organization to a "caped-profit" company, a hybrid of for-profit and non-profit, where shareholders' return on investment was limited to no more than 100 times the original investment amount.

At the end of 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT and became one of the hottest startups in the world, with a valuation of more than $80 billion. Musk has publicly complained about Ultraman many times, calling OpenAI "a demon from hell who pursues profit maximization".

Jason Kwon did not question Musk's central role in OpenAI's early days, but he also revealed that Musk once said he needed "full initial control and majority ownership" and later suggested that OpenAI merge with Tesla, "which we don't think is appropriate."

In the memo, Altman called Musk his hero and said he misses the previous co-founder. But he also said the company's mission continues.

Jason Kwon stressed that OpenAI is independent and will continue to work to ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity.

Altman replied to a 2019 tweet with Musk. It is worth mentioning that Altman spoke for Musk and Tesla on X (Twitter) in 2019, saying that "it must be a mistake to bet on Elon, and the best products usually win". Musk expressed his gratitude at the time. On March 2, local time, Ultraman replied to the tweet, saying that "it's like this all the time." or is also expressing its attitude towards being sued by Musk.

Musk has not responded to this for the time being. (Reporter Qin Sheng).
