The existing Guangyuan Road Xiatang West Road Interchange is located in Baiyun District, Guangzhou City, with an overpass length of 478m, an approach road of 206m long, a width of 13m, and 3 lanes in both directions.

The total investment of the project is estimated at 243.12 million yuan, including 174.88 million yuan for the project, 53.7 million yuan for other construction costs (including 20.83 million yuan for construction land), and 14.54 million yuan for the preparation fee. The highest bid limit for the general contracting of this construction: RMB 136823190$22.

At the end of May 2021, after the existing bridge at the Xiatang West Road overpass on Guangyuan Road was in danger, the Municipal Transportation Bureau immediately carried out emergency rescue work. According to the opinion of the expert consultation meeting, the reinforcement of the Xiatang West overpass takes two steps of temporary reinforcement + permanent reinforcement, and the first stage adopts the temporary support underpinning method to temporarily reinforce the 18 bridge spans, so that the bridge reaches the condition that the bridge deck restricts the passage of two-way 2-lane cars. Temporary reinforcement includes 18 pier foundation grouting reinforcement, temporary support underpinning, crack and defect treatment. On July 4, 2021, the Xiatang West Interchange was temporarily strengthened and opened to 2 lanes and passenger cars with less than 7 seats.

At present, the overhaul project of Xiatang West Road on Guangyuan Road is in the process of bidding for general contracting.

The project has been included in the list of new projects to be started in Guangzhou's 2024 key construction project plan.

After passing through Xiatang West Road, detour to Zhengtong Road, Guangyuan Middle Road, Guangyuan Middle Road and make a U-turn, then pass Dajinzhong Road or Baiyun Avenue Auxiliary Road to Baiyun Avenue South.

North-South Traffic Detour Route:

Traffic mitigation plan for the construction area

In this project, the old bridge is demolished and the new bridge project is fully enclosed, and the existing road at some intersections adopts sectional and sub-frame construction, which does not affect the current traffic. During the construction period, the original roads will be opened to other intersecting roads, entrances and exits. Ensure the access needs of each intersection and the normal access of residents along the line.

The Xiatang West overpass adopts full enclosure construction, and the left and right sides of the ground auxiliary road of Xiatang West Road are closed to an inner lane to carry out bridge demolition construction, and the outer lane of the existing auxiliary road is used to maintain two-way two-lane traffic, and the west auxiliary road needs to be fully closed to meet the construction face when the traffic is dismantled at night south of Xiatang West Road, and vehicles need to detour to Zhengtong Road to Xiatang West Road; When the west side of the auxiliary road can be used, the bridge has been dismantled, and the construction period is about 6 months. Guangyuan Middle Road encloses one inner lane on the left and right sides of the main road for 30 days, and the installation of the whole span slip system, bridge demolition and new temporary pier construction will be carried out. In the process, the two-way eight-lane traffic of Guangyuan Middle Road has always been maintained.

Phase 1 Part 2:

In order to ensure the safety of the road under the bridge, the North Ring Expressway and Guangyuan Road need to be temporarily closed during each span operation when the main girder of the upper span North Ring Expressway bridge is lifted.

Guangyuan Road: When the superstructure of the main bridge is removed, the left and right slots are used to ensure at least 4 lanes of traffic in both directions of Guangyuan Middle Road. The impact time of each span is about 2 days, and the construction time is 24:00 and 6:00 the next day.

North Ring Expressway: Demolition of the superstructure of the main bridge, the use of left and right frames to close the traffic interception vehicles under the high-speed to cooperate with the bridge demolition construction, each span affects the time of about 2 days, the construction time is 24:00 and 6:00 the next day.

Phase II Part 1:

The new bridge Xiatang West Road continues the previous stage of the ground auxiliary road and closes an inner lane on the left and right sides of the ground auxiliary road, carries out the construction of the new bridge, and uses the outer lane of the existing auxiliary road to maintain two-way two-lane traffic. The traffic south of Xiantang West Road is relieved, and the auxiliary road on the west side needs to be fully closed to meet the construction work face during the construction of the bridge at night, and vehicles need to detour to Zhengtong Road to Xiatang West Road; When the west side of the auxiliary road can be used, the bridge has already been erected, and the construction period is about 12 months. The construction of the substructure of the new bridge on the main road of Guangyuan Middle Road needs to enclose one lane on each side for 60 days, maintain the two-way 8-lane traffic of Guangyuan Road and the two-way 6-lane traffic of the North Ring Expressway, and carry out the construction of the middle pier foundation and substructure of the cross-line bridge.

Phase II Part 2:

The superstructure of the bridge is installed on the new bridge. In order to ensure the safety of the road under the bridge, the North Ring Expressway and Guangyuan Road need to be temporarily closed during the operation of the hanging girders of each span of the bridge at this stage.

Guangyuan Road: Install the superstructure of the main bridge, and implement the left and right slots to ensure at least 4 lanes of traffic in both directions of Guangyuan Middle Road. The impact time of each span is about 2 days, and the construction time is 24:00 and 6:00 the next day.
