At present, Vietnam's population is expanding, the annual growth rate of economic development is 6-7%, and the domestic and industrial waste has increased dramatically.
Vietnam's environmental pollution causes a national GDP loss rate of 5% every year, and is rated as one of the top 30 countries in the world with "extremely high risk" of environmental pollution. It has a total of 283 industrial zones across the country, discharging 550,000 cubic meters of wastewater every day; Another 615 industrial clusters, of which only 5% have a complete wastewater treatment system;
More than half of the 550,000 production enterprises are high-risk polluting enterprises; 1.350,000 medical institutions, 47 tons of solid waste and 12 tons of sewage per day50,000 cubic meters; 337 of the nation's 458 landfills fail to meet environmental standards; 787 cities and towns discharge 3 million cubic meters of wastewater per day, mostly untreated;
23 million tons of domestic waste, 7 million tons of solid waste and 63 tons of hazardous waste per year; More than 100 small waste incinerators with dioxin exhaust emission crisis;
The exhaust of 50 million motorcycles and 3.6 million vehicles has exacerbated urban air pollution;
Every year, 100,000 tons of decontamination chemicals are consumed, and 80% of them do not meet the standards, resulting in serious secondary pollution.
From 2020 to 2025, Vietnam will invest more than US$55 billion in environmental improvement, including about US$11 billion in solid waste treatment, US$15 billion in municipal wastewater treatment, US$13.9 billion in industrial wastewater treatment, US$3.4 billion in rural basic environmental protection, US$8.5 billion in environmental transformation and restoration, and US$2.8 billion in natural ecological diversity.
