Li Jiancheng is a neglected historical figure

He was the founding prince of the Tang Dynasty, he was the eldest son of Tang Gaozu Li Yuan, and he was the elder brother of Tang Taizong Li Shimin. His name has an important place in Chinese history.

He was born in 589 AD, the grandson of Li Xun, a nobleman of the Sui Dynasty and the eldest son of Li Yuan, the Duke of Tang. He received a good education from an early age and loved to read and study. In the last years of the Sui Dynasty, he followed his father Li Yuan to raise an army against the Sui, and after the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, he was made the crown prince. On the crown prince's throne, he assisted his father Li Yuan in handling government affairs, and participated in the war to pacify Wang Shichong, Dou Jiande and other separatist forces. He also tried to weaken his younger brother Li Shimin, and had many conflicts with Li Shimin.

He was killed by his younger brother Li Shimin in the Xuanwumen Rebellion in 626 AD and deposed as crown prince. Five of his sons were also killed at the same time, and only one son, Li Fu, survived. His wife, Zheng Guanyin, was made a concubine after Li Shimin's accession to the throne and spent the rest of her life in the palace.
