About the Author

Wu Han (1909-1969), formerly known as Wu Chunhan, was born in Yiwu, Zhejiang, and graduated from Tsinghua University with a well-known expert on Ming history in China. He has served as a professor at Yunnan University, Southwest Associated University and Tsinghua University, vice mayor of Beijing, member of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and president of the Beijing Historical Society.
