Alan Wake 2 has officially announced that they will be pushing a major update this week to improve the performance of older graphics cards that lack mesh shaders, such as NVIDIA's RTX 10 series graphics cards. According to Digital Foundry's testing, the GTX 1080 Ti has achieved a 100% improvement, and the GTX1070 has reached a playable level, but the AMD card has limited improvement, and even crashes when running the app.

According to Digital Foundry's tests (1080p resolution, AMD FSR2 quality gear enabled, graphics settings similar to PS5), after updating the latest patch, the performance of GTX 10 series graphics cards in games has been significantly improved. The popular GTX 1060 gets a 45% increase in frame rates, and even about 3x better performance in certain areas such as Mind Place. In addition, the GTX 1070 has also increased by 57%, and the game frame rate has basically stabilized above 30 fps, which has reached a playable level. The GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti are 80 percent and 100 percent better, respectively, with the latter averaging nearly 60 fps.

On the AMD side, the RX 580 often crashes, and the average frame rate is only about 15 fps, which is a big gap with the GTX 1060. The RX 5700 XT is only a 2% improvement and is still affected by large fluctuations in frame-rate rendering latency.

Remedy Entertainment announced before the game's launch that the recommended specs for Alan Wake Killer 2 PC are at least an Intel Core i5-7600K+NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 graphics card, and require DLSS FSR technology to assist. For gamers to experience ray tracing further, the requirements are even higher, and the graphics card is at least an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, as follows:

Preview PreviewSince only DirectX 12 Ultimate graphics cards support mesh shaders, a new algorithm can be used to reduce the load on the GPU and thus increase the frame rate of the game, so it has a big impact on the performance of older graphics cards that don't support this feature. As one of the most popular triple-A games out there, Alan Wake 2 is a great way to make the game more accessible to players who haven't upgraded their computers.
