In the ** primary election on Super Tuesday, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Haley lost in every state except Vermont. According to a number of U.S.** sources, Haley will announce her withdrawal from the 2024 U.S. ** race on Wednesday local time.
That would make former Trump the last major candidate in the Republican primary, and he is almost guaranteed to win the Republican nomination and possibly face off against the incumbent Biden in the United States in November.
Haley is expected to speak Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET in Charleston, South Carolina.
Haley was the last of the main candidates Trump defeated in the Republican primary, and Trump has dominated from start to present, including winning 14 of Tuesday's 15 Republican primaries, while he did not participate in party debates and held campaigns in fewer early voting states than any of his rivals.
Haley had vowed to hold out until at least Super Tuesday. She also stepped up her attacks on Mr. Trump, questioning his mental health and comparing him to his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, as one of two "grumpy old men."
But Haley lost one after another in the election. Her home state of South Carolina was her fourth straight loss, and she also awkwardly lost to the "none of the above candidates" option in the Nevada primary. As the campaign enters a new phase, Haley has little hope of catching up with Trump.
Still, in her campaign, Haley became the first Republican woman to win two primaries: Vermont and the District of Columbia.
The former South Carolina governor's exit shows that Republican base voters remain loyal to Trump, although polls show that Haley is in a better position to compete with Biden.
