Recently, Zhang Hua, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, and Xie Zhanhuan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, jointly held the first meeting of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Environmental Protection Cooperation Task Force in 2024 in Hong Kong, and witnessed the signing ceremony of the "Cooperation Agreement on Comprehensively Deepening Shenzhen-Hong Kong Ecological and Environmental Protection" (hereinafter referred to as the "Cooperation Agreement").
It is understood that in the past year, Shenzhen-Hong Kong environmental protection cooperation has achieved remarkable results and bright spots, established and improved working mechanisms such as regular meetings of special classes and "one-to-one" docking and liaison, carried out 36 multi-level and multi-form exchanges and visits, coordinated and solved cross-border environmental problems, and made significant progress in coordinating and solving cross-border environmental problems, and jointly promoted the average total phosphorus of Wutong River, the largest tributary of the Shenzhen River on the Hong Kong side, to reduce by 35 year-on-year9%。
The "Cooperation Agreement" focuses on the areas of climate change, the construction of the Northern Metropolis of Hong Kong, the innovation of ecological and environmental science and technology, the convergence of ecological environment planning and standards, the construction of beautiful river bays, the improvement of regional atmospheric environment, the optimization of urban ecological space, the construction of zero-waste bay areas, publicity and education, etc., and comprehensively plans the ten major collaborative cooperation tasks of Shenzhen and Hong Kong in the next five years, and builds five cooperation mechanisms of overall coordination, regular meetings, docking and liaison, information sharing and agreement implementation, so as to further promote the continuous improvement of the ecological environment of the two places. Help build a world-class bay area with a beautiful ecological environment.
The two sides said that the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment and the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is of great significance under the new historical opportunity, laying a solid foundation for promoting deeper, higher-level and broader cooperation.
The meeting also discussed a number of Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation matters such as municipal solid waste treatment and disposal, the construction of beautiful river bays and cross-border transportation of new energy, and reviewed and approved the 2023 work report of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Environmental Protection Cooperation Task Force.
