During mating, the female tortoise always hides behind the male or buries her head deep in her shell, and it is strictly forbidden to maneuver. This is because at this stage, the male's hormones surge, and the personality at this time becomes extremely ferocious. And after the marriage, the male will not hesitate to leave, leaving the female with the heavy task of giving birth and growing a new life. During pregnancy, easy walks are a luxury for them, and males leave them with more tasks than they can handle.
The road to the breeding of giant tortoises is long and arduous. Walkable at a waddling pace of 300 metres per hour, it takes a month for a female tortoise to reach its destination. Yet, they persevered and sought their homeland. However, after the mating is completed, what awaits the tortoises is another, more vast and helpless journey - the birth of offspring. Mother tortoises need to traverse heavy rocks, winding rivers, and dense urban buildings to reach their destination.
Fortunately, despite all the risks, the tortoise survived and managed to lay about 16 precious eggs. In a Level 2 protected area with strong security, the baby tortoise hatched out of its shell and started a new chapter in its life. Female tortoises selflessly catch mites, lizards, and other insects. Provide abundant nutrients to the cubs, who will grow up to be the guardians of the Amazon rainforest in the years to come.
