Throughout the renovation process, we will be faced with a lot of options. For example, whether to install a dishwasher in the kitchen, whether to use rock slabs for the TV wall, whether to separate dry and wet in the bathroom, and whether to install sliding doors and ...... on the balcony

If you ask me which option is the most difficult to decide, there is no doubt that the first thing in my eyes is the "balcony sliding door". Because of the balcony sliding door, "to install or not to install", it seems that everyone has their own opinion, and in reality, it seems to be half of the total. So the question is: is it better to install a sliding door on the balcony, or not? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

As someone who has installed 2 houses, to be honest, when I experienced two decisions separately, I had the answer in my heart.

In fact, in the past, installing sliding doors on balconies was the "default practice". Because in the eyes of many people, a balcony is a balcony after all, and it always has to be separated from the living room. After the space is separated, the following advantages will be reaped at the same time:

1. The space of the balcony is more independent

Because of the door, the small space of the balcony appears more independent. This also allows us to play freely when decorating. At the same time, the installation of sliding doors will also block the clutter in the field of vision to a certain extent. After all, after moving in, you will find that the clutter on the balcony is piling up more and more.

2. Let raising flowers and vegetables be more worry-free

Flowers and plants are part of the home, they can also bring vitality and sophistication, so we will find that almost every family has some flowers and plants on the balcony.

Even after the start of hoarding vegetables at home, more and more people have begun to shift from raising flowers to "growing vegetables on the balcony". However, whether it is raising flowers or growing vegetables, small flying insects are always ongoing. So at this time, if there is a sliding door, there will be no worries.

3. The door is a barrier, which can block dust, noise, cold and heat

Installing a sliding door between the living room and the balcony is an extra barrier. This barrier is a good barrier against dust, noise, and heat and cold. Dust and noise are naturally well understood. In terms of blocking heat and cold, according to my experience in daily life, I found that the temperature in the living room will be affected by the temperature difference of about 2 from the outside world with or without sliding doors. Although the impact of heat and cold is not large, it can affect the energy consumption of the air conditioner.

The advantages of installing a sliding door can be said to be very obvious. However, it also has some minor drawbacks, such as increasing the budget. Another point is that for small houses, the interior space will appear more cramped.

On the whole, in fact, these two so-called shortcomings are not worth mentioning, which is also the main reason why many people remove the sliding door or do not install the sliding door, and finally regret it.

But interestingly, with all the advantages of installing sliding doors, why do many people choose to connect the living room to the balcony in the first place?

It is undeniable that there are some attractive advantages to not installing sliding doors. For example, the following points have caused one of my houses to abandon the sliding door:

1. Make the view of the living room more open

Because there are no sliding doors, the balcony is also part of the living room. In addition, when the ground is paved during the decoration, the vision is indeed a lot clearer.

2. It can turn the balcony into a variety of functional areas

For example, the balcony can be turned into a fitness area, reading area, relaxation area, and so on. And this is also due to the fact that the balcony has become part of the living room, so the decoration can be more daring.

3. Make the living room more lit

Nowadays, the houses are basically sitting south and facing north, so the lighting is generally very good. By connecting the living room with the balcony, the living room can be lit to a higher level.

In addition to the above advantages, of course, the absence of sliding doors also reduces an expense.

However, while there are so many advantages to connecting the living room to the balcony, the disadvantages seem to be more obvious than that. Next, based on the experience of those who have come before, let's talk about some of the troubles caused by the absence of balcony sliding doors.

After connecting the living room to the balcony, the disadvantages seem obvious to me. For example, "don't cover up the ugliness". Because there are no sliding doors, everything on the balcony is exposed. Nowadays, many houses are open to the north and south, and when you open the entrance door, you can see the balcony at a glance.

At this time, if there is no sliding door to cover it, then some sundries on the balcony will be very conspicuous. Therefore, the disadvantages of "not covering up ugliness" are very obvious.

In addition, for houses on the side of the road or at traffic intersections, if you do not install sliding doors, the indoor noise will increase a lot. Conversely, if a sliding door is installed and left closed, the noise in the living room will be much lower. Because the sliding door itself is soundproof.

Contrary to the advantages of installing a sliding door, in addition to the increased noise, the hot and cold temperature in the living room will also be affected by the outside world. Especially for northerners, the heat of summer and the cold of winter, the greater the temperature of the living room is affected by the outside world, the greater the energy consumption of the air conditioner.

For the many disadvantages of not installing sliding doors, there are actually solutions, but the corresponding solution cost is relatively high (all windows are replaced with broken bridge aluminum, and all glass is replaced with three-layer insulating glass), so in comprehensive comparison, it is better to choose to install sliding doors.

Through the comparison of the advantages and disadvantages mentioned above, I believe many people already know how to choose.

In fact, in my opinion, whether to install sliding doors or not is still to be determined by combining the characteristics of your own home, as well as your preferences and budget. For small homes, it is obviously more appropriate to abandon the sliding doors, after all, they can be exchanged for more space.
