In the history of our country, there has been a feudal society for about 2,400 years. And in such a long period of social and era development, as the supreme ruler, he is undoubtedly the supreme emperor, regardless of his character and ability, in short, he has the final say. So, why did the ancient emperors use their own uncles more than their own uncles?
Among the more than 400 emperors in the feudal society for more than 2,000 years, it should be said that there are still many ancient emperors, and in terms of the system and concept of employing people, they can also achieve "meritocracy", but no matter which emperor he is, he will appoint his trusted henchmen to help him govern the country and consolidate his court and rule. As long as we take a cursory look at the ancient history of our country, it is not difficult to find that in addition to the normal employment of people, under normal circumstances, most of the important ministers who help and assist the emperor in managing the government are their own uncles, not their own uncles, at least in the degree of reuse, the difference between them is still relatively large. There are three main reasons for this.
First, uncles are much less likely to compete for the throne than uncles. In traditional culture, although the social status of the uncle is relatively high, after all, it belongs to the relatives, not the relatives. Under the influence and constraints of ancient ethics and ancestral systems, it was the uncle, not the uncle, who had the right to inherit the throne. Therefore, no matter how great the power given to the uncle is, few dare to usurp the throne, and if he usurps the throne, it will be "not right, and his words will not be good", and he will be attacked by the whole country. Of course, there are also emperors' uncles in history who rebelled and tried to usurp the throne because of their excessive power, but in the end they all ended in failure because they were unruly and unpopular. Therefore, most emperors are still very wary of reusing their uncles.
In the second aspect, compared with uncles, the threat to the imperial power is much greater. As long as it is an uncle or brother of the emperor's family with the same surname, they are all members of the imperial family, that is to say, they all have the right to inherit the throne, if once the power is in hand, maybe they can replace the emperor at any time, then wouldn't the emperor be miserable? For example, Ming Chengzu Zhu Di is one of the typical examples of his uncle seizing the throne of his nephew. Because the feudal dynasty is a "family world", as long as the children and grandchildren of the founding emperor have the right to inherit the throne, then uncles and brothers are often the biggest threat to the imperial power. It's good that the emperor can hold it, but if it gets out of control, it will be very dangerous. For this reason, the emperors of all dynasties know very well in their hearts that uncles must not be used too much.
Thirdly, to a large extent, the emperor will also be influenced or interfered with by the empress dowager. The empress dowager is the most deeply aware of the importance of imperial power and interests, so she wants to get the same scenery as when the first emperor was in the past, and be able to firmly grasp the power, which requires the strong support of her own family forces, relying on the full help of her own brothers, that is, trying to make the emperor reuse his uncles. For the empress dowager who has power and ability, she will even put some pressure on the emperor to achieve her own goals. For example, Liu Heng, Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty, obeyed the words of the Empress Dowager and appointed his uncle as an assistant.
To sum up, there is a certain reason why the emperor reuses his uncle and not his uncle. Because most of the uncles will not pose a threat to the imperial power, while the uncles may seek power and usurp the throne. In addition, the influence or intervention of the Queen Mother is also one of the reasons. What do you think?
