Recently, the reporter found that the history textbook of the secondary vocational school has included the "Yunxian people" in the lesson "The Origin of Chinese Civilization and the Formation of the Early State".
*The Liangzi (Yunxian people) site of Xuetang in Yunyang District of Yunyang City is the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units, and the three "Yunxian Man" skulls unearthed about 1 million years ago are the most complete ancient human skull fossils of the same era found in the Eurasian interior so far, filling the gaps related to the evolutionary history of Homo erectus in East Asia, and is the only empirical evidence of the key nodes of the million-year human history in China.
The site is currently confirmed in ChinaThe earliest Paleolithic site where hominin fossils, ancient animal fossils and stone artifacts coexistIn addition to the excavation of 3 complete ancient human skull fossils, there are more than 20 kinds of associated mammal fossils, more than 5,000 stone products and more than 10,000 cultural relics specimens. It is the earliest and most complete ancient human site among the Homo erectus fossils found in southern China, which fills the gap between Yuanmou Man and Peking Man. In particular, the hand axes unearthed by excavations were 350,000 years older than those in Africa and Europe, shaking the theory of the origin of human beings in "African monism".
In 1990, the site was first selected as one of the "Top Ten New Archaeological Discoveries in China". Since the advent of the No. 3 skull fossil of "Yunxian Man" in 2022, it has been selected as "China's Six New Archaeological Discoveries in 2022" and "Top Ten New Archaeological Discoveries in China" in 2022, and has won honors such as "Top Ten Hot Events in the Cultural and Museum Industry in 2022", "Ten Major Events in Hubei Cultural Relics in 2022" and "Top Ten International Archaeological News in 2022". The discovery of the fossil skull of "Yunxian Man" has been published in the "Chinese Encyclopedia" and published in the American magazine "Discovery" for two times and the British magazine "Nature" twice.
Accordingly,Published by the Higher Education Press and compiled by the Ministry of Chinese History, the textbook "Chinese History" for secondary vocational schools includes "Yunxian people" in the textbook. Nowadays, students' knowledge of ancient humans is not limited to the representative primitive people of Yuanmou people, Lantian people, and Beijing people, but also the Yunxian people who are about 1 million years old.
