The first step in using a Router OS router is no different from any other router

Continuing with yesterday's opening series

For now, it can only be assumed that you already have a router OS router, and it is mikrotik, and everything going forward will be based on this assumption.

To put it mildly, it is enough for the vast majority of users to use the optical modem routers provided by broadband operators in their own homes. There is no need to replace the router. Moreover, the effect of rashly replacing the router itself may not be better than that of the optical modem router provided by broadband operators. This is the reality of your home network, and you might even think that any article that fools you into buying a router is ill-intentioned or sells anxiety.

For example, in Tianjin, most of the Unicom optical modems that are now commonly used are already the following HS8346X6, which only need to be deployed within a few minutes by using their proprietary terminal to scan the code and install.

At the same time, the Internet needs of ordinary people can be fully met by this optical modem. There's no need to bother at all.

Therefore, in often tells you the truth that "there is no need to toss the network at home if you can".

Of course, there are also many digital novices who always feel that the router given by broadband at home does not meet the requirements they imagined, and it seems that only by changing a router can the network at home be considered complete. Most of these novices will also search for keywords such as "how to change routes" on the Internet, if at this stage, in's advice should not be tossed, the router is still very far away from your life.

If you've been tricked into using in and want to switch to a router OS soft route, then you can start with today's article.

I said yesterday,Under normal circumstances, you can choose the entry of the MIKROTIK router to get startedHAP or HEX,The difference between these two routers is whether it comes with a wired connection function,HAP with wireless function,The lowest**is about 300 yuan,And HEX has no wireless function,**There are also several models to choose from near 300。

Of course, at a price of more than 600, you can get a model with not only a PoE output but also a cage.

When you actually get your hands on a mikrotik router, the first step is to connect the router in your hand to your home network.

By default, there is a port in the Mikrotik router that is marked with an Internet port

We only need to connect the network cable from the broadband router to the Internet port of the Mikrotik router to let the router complete the physical connection of the uplink port.

In the LAN area, you can find a port to connect to your computer to complete the downlink of this router.

When the router is powered on, the router is ready to connect to the Internet.

Usually, the IP address of the router is already set to 192 in the factory settings of Mikrotik168.88.1。This address is the initial address of the router.

There are two ways you can access this address.

First, access the web page through a browser on your computer just like a regular home router"192168.88.1”。You'll be taken to the router's settings page.

Second, you can also pre-order the router's management software winbox, and connect it to the router through the management software.

There is no difference between the two methods, except that some specific menu functions will be in different places. Basically, it's determined by the characteristics of the app and web version, and you can get used to most of the operations by getting used to it.

By default, the router username for logging into Mikrotik is admin and the password is empty. Click Login directly on the web login page or click Connect in the Winbox application to enter the router management interface.

Usually, the first time you enter a new router, you will be presented with a Quick Set screen.

In is lazy, I didn't reinstall a mikrotik router, and I just changed it back to the original settings on the screen, so ......Ignore the color of the blue letter above.

As an aside, there are many, many settings in the Router OS, so when you make a change in any of the ribbons, the label of the change item will turn blue, and if you make a mistake in some items, the corresponding item label will turn red. It's a small design that's easy to see and contrast.

When you see the Quick Set screen, you will find that the settings of the Router OS are no different from those of ordinary routers. For example, the Internet access settings of the Xiaomi router below are basically the same as those on the Quick Set interface of the Router OS:

There is a very important item in the Quick Set called ".address acquisitionThis translates to "address acquisition". This is the uplink address of the router. Usually a home router address acquisition will have three options:

1.static - a static address.

2.Automatic – Automatically acquired.

3.PPPoE - PPPoE dial-up acquisition.

If your broadband modem does not have any settings, we can usually choose Automatic to automatically obtain an internal network address assigned by the modem DHCP function. All router downlink devices access the network through the private IP address automatically assigned by the modem.

If your broadband modem is set up with a bridging mode, we can choose PPPOE and use the dial-up function of the router to obtain a dial-up address directly in the broadband network.

This option is actually completely indistinguishable from a regular home router.

In the local network set of settings, you actually set the address range of your home network.

IP address is the home intranet address of the router access, and the default value is 192168.88.1. This address can be set to 192168.n.1, where n can be any number from 0-255. After the router is configured, the downlink network of the router is a typical Class C VPC address. Under normal circumstances, there is no need to set the address of this part of the network for beginners. Of course, if you want to set it up, you can also try it out.

However, I have to say here that although theoretically the number N can be set to any number between 0-255, your ROS router is connected to an optical modem, whether it is address automatic acquisition or dial-up mode, you still have its own IP address segment on the optical modem. According to the recent parameters of the modem of Tianjin Unicom, the default intranet address range of the modem itself is 192168.38.*, so it is theoretically necessary to avoid 38 when setting this n. The default intranet address set by different network operators in different regions is different, so you have to distinguish it.

192.168.n.In 1, the 1 after n can actually be set to any value between 1 and 254, but the common industry practice is to set the network router to the first or last address of an IP address range. It's a convention, for example, you can set it to 250, and that's fine, but this kind of behavior looks funny to people in the industry.

And then there is the DHCP server, which is the DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) server, which is usually understood to be used for assigning IP addresses. You can set up a dynamic IP address assignment mechanism for your internal network, so that devices connected to this router automatically get an IP address. Normally, the router os in this option defaults to 192168.88.50-192.168.88.An address pool can be created within 149 to assign IP addresses to 100 devices at the same time.

In fact, most of the settings can be used by default, so after selecting the address acquisition mode of the router, click the "Apply Configuration" button under the page, and the router can go online with the following machine.

At this point, you have spent a sum of money to buy a Mikrotik Router OS soft router that is no different from a normal router.
