Since the first volume of Grimm's Fairy Tales appeared in 1812 and the second volume in 1815, there have been seven printed editions of the complete works, most of which are the final revised edition in 1857. Since the second edition, after many deletions and modifications, the fairy tale has gradually lost its position in the first edition, and no longer has the wildness characteristic of epic, but has become a story that can be read by children. The book is based on the German version of the Brothers Grimm's extensive handwritten marginal notes, including the foreword and appendix written by the Brothers Grimm for the Fairy Tale Institute.
About the Author:
Jacob Grimm (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859), the fathers of Germanic languages and literatures, made seminal contributions to the study of paleography, folklore, and linguistics.
