For PS novices, how to use the displacement filter

For PS novices,One of the most common problems encountered in daily life may be that I actually understand the functions of the software.,I know it all.,But I don't know how to use it in practical applications.,And when you see the ** effect made by others, you can't think of what function is used to achieve it.。

One of the most common ones is Photoshop's built-in displacement (filter-distortion-displacement).

Scenarios that are often used in daily life for displacement, such as:

Silk, blend your own text or logo on the silk background

You can observe some of the commonalities of the above**: the ripples (folds) of water, the folds of red flags, the folds of silk, etc., all with irregular textures. What we need to do is to perfectly integrate the text or logo into the irregular background to make it one, and there is no trace of PS.

The displacement filter, as the name suggests, is to replace the original effect with a new element, which we can understand as replacing the irregular texture in the background with the text or logo, so that the fold texture of the two is consistent, and has a unified light and shadow environment, which looks like a whole.

Taking silk as an example, first of all, two parts are clarified:

1. Background: the folded texture of silk;

1. Content part: text content or logo, here we use the words "replacement filter" instead.

2. Make and save the replacement material for later use.

Hands-on:1Open the background material, and Ctrl+J to copy the new layer, click Image-Adjust-Decolorize, and the shortcut key Shift+Ctrl+U

Click Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur (This step is not required, in order to make the content fusion more harmonious after replacement, you can judge whether to use it according to the actual situation, including the radius setting of Gaussian blur can also be set according to the situation, here it is set to 4.)0)

Click OK, get the Gaussian blurred **, save as the material to be used later: file-save as-save, for the convenience of later identification, we will name: replacement material.

2.Close the source file and reopen the original.

3.Here, in order to demonstrate the process, the Chinese content looks more obvious, I changed the material to blue through color saturation adjustment, which has nothing to do with the use of this replacement tutorial.

Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E to stamp the layer.

4.Enter the text, or drag the logo you want to blend into PS

Here I typed in "Displacement Filter hooboo", selected all the content layers, and right-clicked to turn them into Smart Objects.

5.With the Smart Object selected, click Filter-Distortion-Displacement.

6.Click OK, select the previously made replacement material, and click Open. You can see that the Smart Object has the same folds in the direction of the texture of the previous displacement asset (below).

7.All you need to do is align the content with the brightness and darkness of the background folds. You can consider adjusting it in the blend mode, and here I used a soft light.

8.You can see that the text is a little light, so here ctrl+j reproduces an extra layer of content, and continues to use soft light, and the text highlights while retaining the light and shade of the silk texture. You can also use other methods, such as duplicating a layer and adjusting the transparency, etc., in short, the purpose can be achieved.

9.Similarly, the reflection in the water ripples, the content on the red flag, etc., the principle and operation steps are the same as the above.

To summarize for you, if you want to integrate text or logo and other content into the background with irregular textures, you can consider using a displacement filter to complete. However, when encountering such problems in the process of web page production and web design, replacing the filter is not the only way, after all, all roads lead to Rome, and everyone can achieve the goal in various ways according to the actual situation and personal preferences.
