Nanhewan, also known as Hui River, is known as Gray River, Hunhe River, Luoshui in ancient times, and is called water control in the Book of Han. The Hui River originates in the watershed village of Guanshuo Mountain in Yuzhuang Township, Ningwu County, Shanxi Province, with a length of 32 kilometers and a basin area of 301 square kilometers. It flows north to the vicinity of Mayi in Shuozhou, and joins the Yuanzi River, which originates in Xinzibao Village, Zuoyun County, and is called the Sanggan River. According to the Qing Dynasty's "Shuozhou Chronicles", it is recorded: "The Huihe River flows 50 miles in the south, out of the Ningwujun Pass, 15 miles to Hongyaer Village, and gushes out to the south of Tayi Village, passes through the south of the city to Mayi, enters the Sanggan River, and is commonly known as the South River." ”

Nanhewan is located in the south of Shuocheng District, originating from Junshankou in Ningwu County, originating from the watershed village of Guanshuo Mountain, with the same source as the Fen River, which is a sister river, with the Fen River to the south and the Hui River to the north, crossing the central part of Shuocheng District. Since the south river water of Shahe Village, Yaozitou Township, Shuocheng District, gradually dives into the gravel layer at the bottom of the riverbed, the undercurrent is 5 kilometers, the water can not be seen on the river, to the north of Fengyu Village, the south of Youfangtou Village gradually gushes out, forming the landscape of "Huihe River Undercurrent, Ten Miles of Drilling Sand", so it is called Huihe, Shuozhou people call it "Nanhe Bay". The total length of the river is 77 kilometers, the basin area is 1,210 square kilometers, and it flows 51 kilometers from the Taipingyao Reservoir to the East Yulin Reservoir in Shuocheng District, with an average annual flow of 50 million cubic meters.

Since 2006, Shuocheng District of Shuozhou City has adhered to the principle of adapting measures to local conditions, doing a good job in the overall planning and construction of the area, realizing the coordination between the river ecology and the surrounding natural and cultural environment, and rolling out the river treatment project in the urban section of the Huihe River, with a length of 21 kilometers, which is divided into seven phases and implemented annually. Under the premise of meeting the urban flood control standards, the water retaining buildings are designed for the integration of bridges and dams, and the bridges and dams are used to connect Zijin Street and Xueyuan Road, and the bridges, dams, ring roads, highways, landscape greening, water storage lakes, hydrophilic platforms, wharves and landscape bridges are organically combined to build a comprehensive and systematic river treatment project in Shuozhou urban area. After unremitting comprehensive renovation, Huihe has changed the image of the muddy quagmire in the past, and has become a high-standard urban wetland park integrating ecological wetland, urban wetland and cultural wetland. In December 2009, with the approval of the Shanxi Provincial Forestry Department, the Huihe Provincial Wetland Park was established, with a planned area of 730 hectares and a wetland area of 59902, the wetland rate is 82%. The beautiful and livable environment attracts many species of birds to settle down. At present, there are mainly black storks, whooper swans, and other countries.

Birds of Class I and II protection are attracted by this beautiful scenery and stop here on their way to migration.

Cities are smart because of water, and livable because of green. Today's Huihe River is like a jade belt passing through the city, under the blue sky and white clouds, between the green trees, the scattered buildings on both sides of the bank are like the jewels on the jade belt. The river surface is rippling, the scenery is charming, the pavilion is reflected, the tourists on the shore are fishing, comfortable and contented, the water and land scenery are contrasting with each other, and looking at it makes people feel cheerful.
