However, during that chaotic period, many old party members were framed, not to mention Zhang Zhizhong, a former Kuomintang general, and his former Kuomintang friends were framed to varying degrees. But even in the whirlpool, Zhang Zhizhong is still not afraid of power, and has loyalty and courage beyond ordinary people. 
On the National Day in 1967, Zhang Zhizhong was invited to climb the Tiananmen Tower again, but at this time his body was very weak, and he could only sit in a wheelchair and let people push him up. After Zhang Zhizhong saw the great man on the city tower, he said to the great man earnestly: "Chairman, your steps are too fast, we can't keep up!" Then he sighed deeply and continued: "Now there are more than five percent of the cadres who have gone down, and many old friends in my party, those marshals have gone down, what should you do with the old man?" The great man looked at Zhang Zhizhong and said with a smile: "Brother Wen Bai! Don't worry, we can screen it! ”
After listening to the great man's answer, Zhang Zhizhong slowly stood up, but he didn't talk to the great man again, and the whole person looked very depressed. In the eyes of many people, these two short sentences of dialogue do not explain anything, but what many people don't know is. At that time, in an environment where everyone was in danger, there were very few people who dared to have such a straightforward dialogue with the great man, but Zhang Zhizhong dared because he spoke to the great man like this more than once. In September 1954, before the opening of the first session of the First National People's Congress, after learning that the great man was not going to speak, Zhang Zhizhong tried every possible means to persuade him. 
He said to the great man: "This people's congress is the first real people's congress in the history of China, you are the host at the opening of the people's congress, how can you not speak?" Although the great man refused to speak until the meeting, at the opening ceremony, he still came to talk about it, and it was once rumored to be a beautiful talk. Zhang Zhizhong is a well-deserved patriot, he has never been selfless, and as long as he can promote China's cause of peace, he is willing to use his heart and brains to the ground. 
But just when he was full of ambition and determined to dedicate himself to the construction of New China, ten years of turmoil struck, so that the long-experienced patriotic general was unexpected, even so, he still firmly believed that the great man and the best have their own measure. At that time, Zhang Zhizhong's daughter Zhang Su and I came to Beijing from Nanjing to visit him, Zhang Zhizhong asked Zhang Su about my outside situation, and Zhang Su told me the truth. The more Zhang Zhizhong listened, the worse his face became, and finally he shook his head and said, "In a few years, this will be a big joke!" Zhang Zhizhong asked Zhang Su again: "The child told me that if I don't actively participate in 'sports', can't I?" ”
Zhang Su said: "Yes, but we are against smashing and looting, we must talk about policies at all times, and be a man with a conscience!" ”
Zhang Zhizhong nodded and said: "If it's not right, it's not appropriate, seek truth from facts!" "In October 1968, Zhang Zhizhong was seriously ill, and after the great man heard about it, he immediately sent someone to send supplements, and Zhang Zhizhong's words on Tiananmen Square may be the words of his friends! On April 6, 1969, Zhang Zhizhong died of illness at the age of 79.
