The first bid section of the overall reconstruction and expansion project of Lhasa Gonggar Airport T1 and T2 terminals, which is constructed by China Construction Eighth Bureau, includes the partial demolition and new construction of T1 terminal, the interior renovation of T2 terminal, and the new construction area of the corridor area, with an overall construction area of about 270,000 square meters. The two-storey T2 terminal will be completed and will mainly serve international functions. The T1 terminal under construction will assume important transportation functions after completion. The construction and commissioning of the project will further improve the international functions of Lhasa Gonggar Airport, make up for the lack of domestic capacity, take into account the needs of major transportation support, and meet the target year of 2030 with a passenger throughput of 12 million passengers, a cargo and mail throughput of 120,000 tons, and an aircraft take-off and landing of 880,000 flights are required.
According to Qin Yong, the person in charge of the project site of China Construction Eighth Bureau, the project will start in early July 2023, and through scientific organization and efficient co-ordination, it has completed the construction of the pile foundation and main structure of the T1 terminal and the renovation and reinforcement of the T2 terminal within 2 months, completed the capping of the main structure of the T1 terminal within 4 months, completed the full capping of the steel grid frame on the roof of the T1 terminal in 51 days, and on December 15, the smooth completion of the T2 terminal was realized, and the construction period was reasonably compressed by 2 months. During the construction period, the cumulative demolition and reconstruction of reinforced concrete structures exceeded 160,000 cubic meters, about 140,000 square meters, concrete pouring about 120,000 cubic meters, more than 1,000 tons of steel structure are used, and more than 700 people are invested in labor during the peak period.
According to the construction arrangement, the T2 terminal of Lhasa Gonggar Airport is expected to be put into use by the end of December 2023. At that time, the T2 terminal will be used as an international functional area to further improve the operational capacity of Lhasa Gonggar Airport, enhance the function of Lhasa Gonggar Airport as an international port and the image of the airport as the capital of the autonomous region, and once again plug in the wings of take-off for the world.
