Lawyer Guo Hong, a name that is both brilliant and controversial.
As a practicing lawyer in British Columbia, she has had an illustrious career as a lawyer. After graduating from the University of Ontario School of Law with a Juris Doctorate, Guo Hong became the first practicing lawyer in Saskatchewan to understand Chinese, handling a variety of cases, including civil, criminal, commercial and other fields.
However, a case of theft of trust funds in 2016 caused a series of waves. The case, which involved Canada and China, has attracted widespread attention in the community.
The trust funds of Guo Hong's law firm were stolen, and Guo Hong was accused of failing to properly supervise his subordinates, and the responsibility was suspected. In order to protect her rights and interests, Guo Hong went to court with the construction company over the dispute over the renovation costs.
The dispute has made her name even more recognizable, and even made her a popular candidate for mayor of Richmond in 2018. However, the sun is always short-lived.
In 2019, Guo Hong's career as a lawyer fell into trouble. She was discharged from the right to sign but failed to properly handle the trust funds and faced eight charges of misconduct, including conflict of interest and misappropriation of funds.
The B.C. Bar Association decided to ban Guo Hong from practicing law for one year and imposed a fine. This is undoubtedly a heavy blow to her.
However, the one-year ban on practice is just the beginning. In 2021, the B.C. Bar Association finally made a decision to permanently disqualify Guo Hong as a lawyer.
Her infractions were considered repetitive and intolerable.
