Jiang Ping, born in December 1930, is a native of Ningbo, Zhejiang. Professor, doctoral supervisor. Graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Yenching University and the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University. From 1983 to 1990, he successively served as Vice President and President of China University of Political Science and Law. He served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress and deputy director of the People's Law Committee; From 1988 to 1992, he served as Vice President of the China Law Society. Professor Jiang Ping passed away at 12:28 on December 19, 2023 in Beijing at the age of 94.

Jiang Ping is the spiritual pillar of China's legal circles, a leading figure, and his influence has long gone beyond the scope of academics. As one of the main founders of China's civil and commercial law, he has made outstanding achievements, participated in the formulation of the General Principles of the Civil Law, served as the head of the drafting team of the Trust Law and the Contract Law, was the person in charge of the compilation of the Civil Code, and also played an important role in the formulation of the Company Law, the Contract Law and the Property Law. He is a well-known legal thinker, engaged in the foundation work of legal scholarship in the period of change, and played the role of standard-bearer in different periods; He is also a well-known legal educator, not only one of the outstanding founders of the China University of Political Science and Law where he taught, but also a pioneer of contemporary legal education in China. He is a veritable social activist, and his figure is active in all corners of legislation, justice, and enterprises, upholding the unity of knowledge and action, and sparing no effort to participate in social practice, especially legal system construction activities. In 1956, I stepped into the door of the predecessor of our university, the Beijing University of Political Science and Law. Today, I have been coaching for 40 years.

In the past 40 years, I have spent more than half of my time in the law profession I studied, and when I re-entered the law forum, I was nearly half a hundred years old. In recent years, I have often been in contact with foreign scholars, and the professors in their 40s have been full of books, unprovoked political movements, and mistaken me for my academic years. The lack of solid and profound academic skills is the biggest deficiency of teachers. I don't read as many books as young students, so how can I teach others and guide others? The biggest regret of 40 years of coaching is this.

I remember reading an article that said: When I was in school, I was trembling and felt that I didn't understand anything; When I graduated from college, I was full of ambition and felt that I knew everything; When he was about to retire from the stage of history, he was full of wind and frost, but he felt that he didn't understand anything. Of course, this kind of life mentality is absolute, but it is a trajectory. At first, I never understood why there was such a word "shame" in the virtue "courtesy, righteousness, honesty and shame" taught us by the ancients, what kind of virtue is shame! Later, those who understand shame are deficient, and they are brave after knowing shame. Writing "shame" instead of "brave" in virtue is probably because courage can be the courage of a puppet, and the courage of shame is the greatest bravery. The motivation of people lies in this, those who do not forget the national shame can work hard to serve the motherland; Those who do not forget their own shame can strive to improve themselves, and coaching is even more soCoaching is like life, which is always inseparable from the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty.

Truth is the truth, pursue the truth, obey the truth only, bow only to the truth! Truth has no class character, and it cannot be said that the proletariat necessarily grasps the truth. The subordinates can obey the superiors, but it does not mean that the truth is necessarily in the hands of the superiors, and the fact that the minority obeys the majority does not mean that the truth is necessarily on the side of the majority. The truth cannot be blindly followed, and only through the process of comparison, analysis, thinking, and discernment can we get closer to the truth. It's really true, innocent, without hypocrisy or pretentiousness. Words can express true feelings, and words can express true feelings. An essay may be more concise and truthful than a lesson, but a student may be more rewarding than reading an essay because the teacher is teaching with emotion, and if it is read like an announcer, it is no different from writing an article! The teacher's lecture is like the advance of true enthusiasm, the heart is vented, the truth is conveyed, and the truth is felt!

Goodness is perfection, a lesson is like a work of art, a work of art is to be carved carefully, and strive to have no failure, no redundant pen; In a class, we should also strive not to talk about clichés, nonsense, and superfluous words! Teachers are like artists, and every lesson and work of art maintains the society's evaluation of him. The counterfeit and shoddy products manufactured by the workers affect the reputation of the trademarks and products, while the fake and shoddy products manufactured by the teachers affect their own reputation. Kindness is style, articles should have their own style, lectures also have their own style, no style is the same, that is, equal to others, that is, "chewing other people's chewed buns". And chewing other people's chewed buns is not fragrant!

Beauty is the virtue of teachers, and the most important thing for teachers is to love their teaching profession, but there are too few volunteers who are teachers in colleges and universities. Some of my PhD students are from Taiwan. One day, they talked about their post-graduation aspirations, many mainland doctoral students are engaged in first-class institutions and companies after graduation for the purpose of working, while Taiwanese doctoral students mostly take being able to teach in universities as their first choice. In fact, a Taiwanese doctoral student who is about to graduate has already worked hard to get a chair at Tunghai University, and only those who love their profession will truly have the ethics of their profession.

Only those who are honored with teachers will devote their hearts and souls to the blind. The campus cultural temperament I have seen in some so-called Ivy League universities such as Harvard University and Columbia University in the United States, and the civilized temperament of students, especially the graceful temperament of professors, is indeed incomparable to the ordinary citizen class and the business class. Only a highly civilized teacher can bring about the civilization of students, the civilization of the campus, and the university professor should be the model of civilization, the embodiment of knowledge, and have the temperament and demeanor that he should have!

Forty years of coaching is coming to an end, of course, I have experienced ups and downs, hardships and hardships, but I have no regrets about the path I have chosen! If I had to choose a new career in the next life, I would still have my first goal as a university professor.
