Professor of Tsinghua University China Chip cannot threaten others, only itself

As we all know, the United States has been cracking down on China's chip industry, and in recent years, the crackdown has been increasing and there have been more and more bans.

The United States, along with the Netherlands and Japan, has sought to lead China's wafer industry in the development of 18nm downstream DRAM memory production equipment, 128+ layer NAND flash memory production equipment, and 14nm downstream logic wafer production equipment.

Many people say that the United States feels that China's natural rubber is already very strong, posing a threat to them, and may shake their monopoly position in the global natural rubber industry, so it suppresses the core of China, and it wants to block or slow down the growth of China's natural rubber industry.

But some time ago, Wei Shaojun, a professor at the School of Integrated Circuits of Tsinghua University, gave a speech on the topic"Nanxin sound gathers the future"of"2023 China-Nansha International Integrated Circuit Industry Forum", published a post entitled"The semiconductor industry is re-globalized"of speeches.

In his speech, Professor Wei pointed out some of the current problems in China's Tianjiao industry and expressed his own views: China's Tianjiao does not have the ability to threaten others, but can only threaten itself.

Why did he say that?He said that he asked someone to count the 2022 annual reports of 135 semiconductor companies currently listed on the GEM and KTC, covering the entire industry chain.

The report found that these companies are generally small, with little investment and low gross profit margins, and said that the total market value of these 135 companies is only 3 billion yuan, less than half the market value of Nvidia in the United States.

It also made a statistic that the 62 chip design companies listed on Techtronics spent only $2.9 billion in R&D for the whole year, and that these expenditures could produce about 10 5-nanometer chips.

He himself concluded that his statistics show that all these tablet companies currently listed in China, judging from the financial data, do not reflect a particularly high high-tech content, so we are still in the low-end development stage.

Then he said:"A lot of people think that we are threatening others, but I don't think so, it's okay to threaten each other in this situation"。

Over the years, in fact, many people feel that the development of China's chips has been very powerful, threatening the United States, but in fact, as Professor Wei said, we are actually not very powerful, we are more concentrated in some low-end fields, real high-end products still need to be imported from the United States, many of our chips are still very dependent on foreign countries, our chip industry is far from meeting its own needs, and the gap with the United States is still very large. The gap between China's chip industry and the United States is still very large.

So, in this case, we should not be proud, nor should we say anything to elevate ourselves, but we should keep a low profile, study seriously, seek truth from facts, and learn from the United States, what do you say?
